I have MAME32 .112 running on:
AthlonXP 2400+ 1.8Ghz CPU
1GB RAM
ATI Sapphire 9600XT 256MB AGP graphics card
Some of the games still run slow. Like Tekken 1, 2 and 3. Some Streetfighters etc.
Are there any settings I can set in Mame32 to make these usable? Or is my computer just not fast enough?
Thanks!

Your computer is not fast enough.

Is there a list somewhere listing which games will run adequately on which processors? I know MAME doesn't use the graphics card, and the fact that it's an emulator makes many games run slow and so even faster computers won't run all games at a proper frame rate. Just wondering if it's listed somewhere the recommended computers for the various games, and which will not run fast enough no matter what system you have,

What do you mean Mame doesn't use the graphics card? Of course it does, it uses Direct Draw and even has Direct3D support now so it uses hardware acceleration.
An ATI 9600 XT isn't a bad video card actually, your processor is just a bit slow.
You might want to consider using ZiNc for Tekken and the 3d Streetfighter games. Try the D3D renderer with it.

But not for emulation of the original video hardware. The video card is used for stretching original res to screen res, overlays, bezels, & other post emulation effects.

Not really. It's bean proposed to set one up before, but the problem it's a moving target. With each new mame version, some games slow down, some speed up (not as often), and some don't change.
The best we have to go on are the benchmarks (which change, too): mame32 (http://mame32qa.classicgaming.gamespy.com/Bench.htm), aaron giles (http://aarongiles.com/?p=200), mame benchmarks (http://benchmark.mameworld.net/).

I was under the impression that MAME itself doesn't use ANY GPU horsepower... but then again, I've been wrong before.
