Title: Laminate sources?
Post by: Lilwolf on February 10, 2007, 01:06:23 pm
I missed an auction (long story) and was really hoping to get it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160081662461&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:12 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160081662461&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:12)

Does anyone know any place that I can buy similar items (or something else like it)?

I recently got an old cocktail and trying to spruce it up.  And really hoping that painting the sides isn't the direction I go...   I never used anything like this before.

Thanks

That's a vinyl roll and you can get it at many print shops and cheaper at Home Depot and Lowes (Though Home Depot and Lowes may not have the width you need).  Have you ever thought of using regular laminate - like the formica type laminate that goes on counter tops?  I am using it on my cab and it looks great.
Cheers.

You can ask this guy:

His laminate looks great.

I've never seen this in person, but have seen it online:

IMO, it looks a lot better/authentic than the stuff in the ebay auction that you linked...

The stuff you are referring to is "Contact" paper. more generically known as "shelf liner".  It is very thin, and the adhesive is less than remarkable.

The material in the auction is very thick and designed for use on cabinets, speaker enclosures and so-on.

This (http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&CATID=48&ObjectGroup_ID=135) is the only source I am aware of for it.

At least from that supplier.  Someone else in the world must offer this, but if they do, I haven't been able to find them.

Has anyone ordered or used this stuff yet?

Is it equivalent to what is on a X-arcade/etc?

Parts Express Vinyl laminate (http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&CATID=48&ObjectGroup_ID=135)

I'll be putting the Teak on my Ms. Pac cocktail.

The vinyl in the auction is the same one from Parts Express, he just used half a roll and was selling the left-overs.

I've used the black vinyl for control panels and it's good stuff.

Thanks AlexC.

Sorry to dig up an old post, but it already had the links in it to PE, and wanted to know how the stuff was.

Thanks,
Stobe

You can also get the parts express vinyl from their amazon store if already having an amazon account makes it more convenient.

I used it on my cab and it works very well, looks good too.

Ahhh yes! You rule. I have an amazon credit card and I get free amazon Gift cards all the time. Now I can order my vinyl and the wife can't argue with me. 8)
