I found a link which describes the need for the mame.xml to be able to use Mala with pre 84 mame and I found instructions at this link (http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:F2Fnsm8xT0sJ:www.c3images.com/jukebox/JukeboxInstructions.pdf+mame+xml+file&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=13&gl=us) to create the file. I created it and changed the name to mame.xml and put it in the mame dir, still no joy. I know I saw a thread that said someone was able to do it. Any one know how to get this done? I get this error.
Error: Object Class: TfrmMenu, Object Function: GpKeyboardHook1KeyAction, Exception Class: EListError, Exception Message: Der Index der Liste überschreitet das Maximum (0)
I am running a pIII 600 win98SE hence the older version of mame.

Thanks to Loadmans directions I was successful in using Mala with Mae 061. I posted the version wrong in the title. I downloaded 089 loaded my roms and samples. I then created the MAME.ZML file. The XML file was moved to my 061 folder and opened MALA refreshed the main list and 3000 plus games are there.
Thanks Loadman
