Sorry to be a question whore....
Instead of buying a new video card, would a VGA to S-Video adaptor work right out of the box?
-
they're usually pretty crappy.
I'd stick to an ati card with svideo out. I've had better experiences with those than nvidia.

The results from those things are not great at all, because of the poor quality downscaling they do. Buy an ATI card, you can get one that will do the business for Mame for the same price you're going to pay for that converter.

OUCH!!!! DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!! Please be very careful with that cable!!!
It will only work if your graphics card has it's TV out on the normal monitor connection!! Mostly, only "some" laptops do that. Most other graphics cards have their own dedicated TV out port.
Your 15 pin D connector normally only outputs 31Khz sync frequency, which will FRY a TV set!!! and possibly your card as well if you connect it. TV's work at 15Khz Sync.

Could I possibly use powerstrip ???

You could use Powerstrip..... The downside there is that it won't be active until after windows has loaded. So you have to find some way of preventing any output being sent to your TV set until windows has loaded and is running. AND that's assuming that your graphics card is capable of being set into a 15Khz mode.
Trust me on this one. If you keep going this route it's going to end up costing you even more money.
