Title: Trouble launching PC game (Tiger Woods) from Mala
Post by: sewerrat on February 06, 2007, 08:36:45 am
I thought I had this figured out, and my guess is its not Mala related but maybe somebody has seen this.

I got TW2005 installed.
Went to game copy world and downloaded the no CD exe
Created a shortcut to the game in c:\shortcuts
Added c:\shortcuts as my ROM folder in Mala.
Game launches and plays fine when double clicked from explorer
Game launches from Mala by then a Microsoft "send" "dont send" error box comes up that says something about the digital licensing.

Any clues??

I haven't tried other shortcuts, but I have launched other PC apps, Firefox to be specific.

The TW2005 game, when started, tells me that it doesn't recognize my video card and I may experience problems, press OK to continue.

When launched from Windows explorer, the game continues to load once OK is pressed.
When launched from Mala, the error message comes up when OK is pressed.

Is Mala setup as a shell replacement?

Off topic.  Did you try your tball in windows or tiger woods?  If the axis are switched you might have to swap the wiring.

Not quite sure what you mean by "shell replacement"????

And yes, the Tball is working great!!!

If you don't know what it is you aren't using it :)
Then I am out of ideas.

This is a long-shot

Maybe it's a working directory issue  :dunno

On your windows shortcut try putting the fullpath in the start-in section (without the tiger.exe at the end)

Similar to the example pic attached

Maybe its a resolution issue?

-What resolution are you running your windows desktop at?
-What resolution is Mala running at?
-What resolution is Tiger Woods at?

FWLIW - I am running Tiger Woods 2007 from Mala without a problem. All my PC games are run from a one-line CMD file and the roms are actually LNK(shortcut) files to the actual games.  MALA's emulator executable is a CMD file that launches the appropriate LNK file based on the ROM name that MALA passes to it.

So in other words:

Executable:
c:\emulators\pcgames\runPCGame.cmd

Rom path:
c:\emulators\pcgames\roms
(this folder containes all the Lnk files)

Rom extensions:
Lnk

Commandline:
"%rom%"

Contents of runPCgame.cmd:
call %1

There may have been an easier way, but it works for me.  I doubt your setup has anything to do with your problem, but who knows.

You don't even have to attribute an "emulator" when running lnk files, so that cmd file you set up is actually an extra step..

just point the "rom folder" to where the shortcuts are and it should work.

I also do not have the commandline in quotes... just %rom%

OJ is correct as I just tried it.  I had assumed that the executable field had to have something in it hence the batch file.  However, if you leave it blank, MALA executes the LNK files perfectly.  Good call.

OK, it appears there was a problem with the "no cd" patch from game copy world.
I removed that, uninstalled, and reinstalled and MALA can now launch it BUT . . I have a dff problem

TW2005 pops up a message saying that it doesn't recognize my video card (Im using onboard video) and to hit OK to continue, but it puts this window behind MALA.  With a keyboard I can ALT-TAB to get to it to press OK, but obviously I want to run it from my cabinet without the use of a KB.
Any ideas as to a workaround??

If you want to use no cd then use daemon tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php) and an iso of your disc.
