There is someone on craigslist near me trying to get $800 for a working Galaga machine (not an original). I'm not going to spend nearly that much (I could build a perfect replica for 1/2 that probably) but I'm wondering what a fair counteroffer would be. I'm thinking he is asking about $600 too much...

In the midwest, I see some in terrible shape selling between 500-700.
If he's starting at 800, and you want him in the $200 range... sounds to me like you should just forget about it.
Galaga is one of those rare games that I think justifies a price tag like that.

I don't know if I'd call Galaga "rare" but it is a popular game. For a working one, in good to very good condition I think about $600 is about as high as I would go though...

You'd be getting a good deal.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Seriously, it's kind of a subjective thing. Maybe check the prices they've gone for at recent auctions:

It's subjective, sure - but there is a reasonable amount. If it was $10 - we would know it was a good deal and if it was $3,500 we would know it's a bad deal. He's asking people in the hobby what they feel the value is worth.

Did you guys look at the pictures? Looks more like a poorly constructed MAME cabinet than a Galaga machine. I especially like the misaligned marquee.

well crap... somehow - I didn't even see the link. It's value just dropped... alot.

I'd say an original, dedicated, working Galaga in good condition with a nice monitor is worth $800.
The machine in that picture may be a working Galaga, but that's about it.
-
No sideart.
No cpo.
Non-original cabinet.
Unusable marquee.
Looks like a bottom mounted reunion joy on a wood control panel.
*MY* max price: $100. Maybe $150 if the boards are clean and the monitor is new(er). The boards are all that this has going for it. The rest is more of a liability than an asset. Probably not worth talking to the guy unless you were after the Star Wars he has peeking into the Galaga picture... THAT might be an $800 cabinet, the others aren't.

I did link to the auction site for reference. ;D That should be a good indicator of what the community thinks. Although after looking at those photos, I'd say $800 is probably $600 too much as well.

Just do what I did, pay $375 for UMK3 machine and put in 642-468 at the versus screen.
Presto, Galaga
-
Looks like a POS to me.
-
I was thinking that the only thing worth anything off of that cabinet is the board and possibly the marquee. The monitor would be nice too but I'm willing to bet there is burn in...
-
$200 would be my very high limit for it. The cab does not even look like a decent repro of a Galaga.
This is not the Galaga your looking for. I've seen pics of your cabs and think you could build a much nicer one.
Xam

I'm typically not the type of person to do this sort of thing, but what in the WORLD is up with that galaga control panel? Did you see where the right hand side fire button is? It's conked way off near the P1/P2 buttons, while the left hand button is somewhere close to normal. No wonder there's no overlay on the CP; the buttons wouldn't line up with it!
I thought it was just camera angle on that first photo, but if you check out the front-on photo on the yahoo pages, it's definitely there, and definitely not in the right place. Weird.
Nay Nay Stay Away!

If the board is original, not a bootleg, it's easily worth $150. Then add value of monitor (depending on condition/age), and rest of the cab.
