I started a project based on arcadeparadise 3 and am at the point where I want to setup the emu and FE. I have a P3 600 (although I am doing this work on my 2.8 Ghz desktop as a trial run) so I went with mame061s.zip and the newest mamewah. I got the mame compiled and operating with a couple games, but every time I unzip the mamewah I am missing the Layouts folder and the the layouts.zip file. I have been searching everywhere including the wiki and it I can't find a clear answer on the importance. Some say they have to be there and some dont mention it at all. Never the less I start mamewah and get the unconfiged screen. I was also reading of the importance of having the right mame. Is the one I downloaded correct? I can't figure out the naming convention. Which is the windows command line version.....I really thought compiling the mame would be harder but my noobness is really showing on the FE.
thanks

What version of Mamewah? In the latest version, the layout folder is defunct, and a basic layout is included: http://mamewah.mameworld.net/downloads.htm
That should run almost out of the box, except for Mame v0.61, you should edit \mamewah\config\mame\mame.ini and set:
list_generation_method rom_folder_vs_listinfo
(by default this is _listxml to suit newer Mame versions).
Also check paths etc. in this ini file, and then run Mamewah, hit '2', select 'Games List Options' by hitting '1', and then select 'Generate List'.

It worked!!! that was just too simple... I hate when it is sitting there right in front of me. I was reading last night about some peoples dislike of the migration to xml and didn't notice that line and the fact I was probably using a pre xml emu version. Wow, I hope that was right or I have reproven how little I know.
thanks for the help.
