Title: Are Xbox 360 controllers hackable?
Post by: Arcade82 on January 30, 2007, 06:28:02 am
Has anyonead any experience with them or 3rd party 360 controllers?

I just heard they might be pressure sensitive and I am wondering if that'll make it hard to hack.

You can hack the digital controls fairly easy if you are adept at using a soldering iron. I ruined a controller on my first attempt, but was able to test a few directions and buttons before killing it.

Triggers and thumbsticks are analog, everything else on there is digital.

Yeah I've done plenty of controller hacks before (not sure how to hack the ones that have the black bumps on the button part of the PCB though), but wasn't sure if the digitals were pressure sensitive or not

They didn't look pressure sensitive to me. Here's a blurry picture from my camera phone of the one I ended up melting.  :-[

As you can see, the buttons look just like any other digital input. I saw somewhere that you can just carefully scrape off the black bumps that are on the official controllers. I used a 3rd party used controller so if I screwed up it would be less painful to my wallet.
