Even though Mame machines can play most anything, do you have any actual arcade machines that sit along your Mame machine just for authentic value? If so what are they?
I'm wondering how cheap I could get a working one

All I have is an actual machine

Not yet, but now that I have a horizontal and vertical MAME cab, 2 or 3 originals will be next.
Probably all Williams stuff, a Defender, Robotron and Moon Patrol.
-
I have my Alien Syndrome (see my avatar) and a Nintendo Vs. Cocktail :)
I've had my AS since college...

DITTO! Except I will be first looking for a 720 as my original. Being that I might spend way less money buying an original vs. trying to build something. I do not have a gameroom yet. I don't own my house but hope to buy or build one some day. My dream gameroom will be a completed *Timbercade* (my current vertical mame cab project) a 720 original that I might have to tweak the look to match my other stuff. A very custom virtual pinball machine & custom homemade jukebox. Pool, foose, poker, & ping pong tables. Hopefully all custom. Tons of my wifes arcade artwork as well as others arcade artwork as well. Maybe some authentic stuff.
That outta do it.
Oh, I used to own "Sky Soldiers"

Yep, I have quite a few actual real arcade machines other than my MAME cab. I am a pinball collector before being a vid guy.

I only have one machine and in the process of making a MAME machine.
Here is my one and only love right now. I've installed a 96 in 1 Multipac board into it which almost hooks up like a Ms. Pac Man Daughter Card which gives you 96 variations of Pac Man along w/ a few extras (Pengo, Space Invaders, Mr. TNT and EYES) so I'm almost a version of MAME in it's own way.

Pretty darn cheap if you keep your eyes peeled. However, the cheap working ones are usually a generic, black cabinet with some run of the mill JAMMA game in it. I got two for $50 each, and I'm watching a generic cab 2p version of wrestlefest on ebay right now. Generic cabs I guess would range from $50-$200. Anything higher and the seller is overprices IMO
As to original classic machines or nicer/newer machines in working order, they run you more. It will vary from game to game, and you would have to put feelers out to the pro's to get a gauge on price.
Only example of a good deal I've seen within a 3 hour drive to me was a good condition Robotron for $270 off of ebay. I guess the location of the guy kept the price down.
I would give you a range for working condition nice or classic games as $200-$600 IMO.

These guys are spot on. I have an original Xevious and my Defender, Hypersports, and Berzerk cabinets all run on MAME. I like having the original cabinets for asthetic value as well as original control layouts (especially for Defender). I also have a MAME cabinet of course. Looks like you've got a fever...
-
I've got a Donkey Kong upright, Pacman cocktail, Golden Tee Fore Complete that are all in original or replica cabinets with the original PCBs. I have a Radiant Silvergun conversion cabinet and an XBOX sit down racing cabinet (converted from a Pole Position 2) and a Dreamcast inside a Dynamo cabinet. I also have a Warlords cocktail that I will eventually restore.
-
Rayb & arcademaze you have some awesome machines I wish i had the room for more like that

I have a Galaga vid and a Stargate pinball.
-
Nothing plays Karate Champ Vs. quite like an original Karate Champ Vs. machine, so I have one of those.

I have an asteroids in a generic cabinet with a non-working monitor. I am trying to fix the monitor. I got it for free. It was my uncles and he didn't want to deal with getting tt fixed.
I have a double dragon II cabinet, completely working except no monitor and a cracked mounting board for the monitor. That will be easy to fix up. I also have a double dragon 1 pcb for it. I got the cabinet for free and the double dragon 1 pcb for $5. The cabinet was free because when I was looking parts for my mame cabinet I was at a vendor's warehouse. I liked the cabinet and he said it was mine if I found a way to get it out of the warehouse.
I am getting the guts of an arch rivals machine which I will also put in the double dragon II cabinet. This include a monitor for the cabinet. I am getting it for an affordable price.

I kicked the habit. See link at bottom of this post.

I've got a 280zzzap, Star Fighter (moon Cresta), Championship Sprint, Star Castle, Neo-Geo with a crappy Jamma board in it presently, 3 mame cabs, and 2 pins (Class of 1812 and Jurassic Park) I also have Bubbles, Missile Command, Rally-X, and Tank Battalion cabinets awaiting mame treatment.
This hobby is teh suck.

How do you people fit all these cabinets in your homes?
I need a bigger house. :banghead:

I've got a few boards as well, built myself a supergun to plug em into to Mame cab.
DKjr, TnF, Pengo, gyruss, timepilot, commando, gun.smoke, mr do vs unicorns.
Pengo is the only one that works perfect, Some don't have sound, need to get round to fault finding on them.

The problem is we don't earn enough for the money to not matter and we earn too much to get any of the grants/bursaries and stuff from the government.
Looking forward to them both finishing Uni and becoming idependant (as if) ;D

Join the club. In the same boat, except I'm the only income.
Rest assured though, you can always sell the TWP and pay a semester of school. >:D

OK, my turn I'm just got rid of all the useless items, workout gym, threadmill etc, still have the wife.
I have a quad mame machine slikstik design
1. T-2 pin...
2. A popeye slot w/19" lcd this is a cool machine
& my new creation, I have wanted a racing setup for a long time I looked at building a mame cab, but there is not a lot of racing game plus setting up the controls looked to be a pain plus the room factor.
So I went with a 26" lcd with a peerless wall mount on the wall. The highest end racing setup playset.com makes $299.00 free ship. A surround sound system w/pc wireless racing nascar & xbox racing...I'm getting pics together to put on the projects section. Its a good looking setup, i think people might like this as idea for a racing setup, also I'm putting together flight controls so this could also be a flight simulator.

Aside from my Blackout MAME cab, (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=48239.msg569818#msg569818)
I have a black Knight Pin (which I brought back from the dead)
Ms. PacMan (conversion)(Which I sold, but my friend still needs to come get it.)
Centipede (which my wife claims as hers)
Millipede
Oh yeah and my Simpson's playset (Which has Larry the Looter, Slugfest, and my favorite...Nuke Canada)
Then I have a Virtua fighter which I will be selling soon (no monitor)
NeoGeo 1 slot same story
and a Lock and Chase which I will give away.
Games I have had and sold...
Defender (my first game bought working outright)
Thunderblade
One day I will have a Black Hole Pin and a Gravitar upright.
-
I have a Twilight Zone pinball machine (w/ 3rd magnet mod) but no arcade machines.
-

They really needed to put Grandma's House in there, that was a good game.
I've just started my collection with an overpriced Goonies cab that will eventually be repaired and turned into a horizontal 4-way Mame machine.
-
I dont have pics yet but i have a huge 33" pedistal mame machine and right now a galaxian cab but it has mame for galaxian as my board died for it and a ms pacman and a golden tee fore 2005 cabinet. i like my mame but nothing beats an authentic arcade machine...it just has that smell

I decided after working on my MAME cab to get a cabinet that could run JAMMA boards too. I'd originally wanted to get or piece together a Shinobi cab, but realized that with a JAMMA adapter for Shinobi I could use any JAMMA-wired cabinet and be able to swap out games occasionally. A side-effect of this is that I can run JAMMA games that are newer/3D and that MAME doesn't handle very well. Mr. Driller 2 stays in there 90% of the time (my wife is addicted to it). The PCB you can see where the door fell off the front of my MAME cab is Soul Edge v2.
I bought the cab from a local distributor for $100. It's a Primal Rage cab that had been converted to Tekken 3. Going down there I expected to pick up a generic 19" dynamo cabinet. The atari cab's a little funkier, but the 25" monitor was a bonus and all the electronics are still on a pull-out drawer behind the control panel. I made a new marquee, but so far I can't find an overlay big enough to cover the giant metal control panel. The kick-panel graphics are on a plastic material very similar to the control panel. I haven't found a good way to get them off without damaging the laminate underneath. It's kind of ugly right now, but it works.
Sometime this year I also plan to buy or piece together a 4-slot neo-geo cab. I think that's about all I have room for.
-
No way you could play Defender or Stargate without the original cp layout!

I'm with you on this one. I'd love to get a nice 4 or 6 slot Neo cab. It's hard because I really want a pool table in my game room wich really only leaves room for 2, maybe (and that's a huge maybe) 3 cabs plus 1 pinball. Of course my wallet doesn't have room for any of it.
-
I have a Ripley's believe it or not pinball machine and A Monopoly Slot Machine. Besides that there is a talking dartboard, poker table, bar with blackjack table. And today I am considering a foosball table, Target has it 50% off.
-
At this point, all I have is an empty cab waiting to be MAMEd. Even if I got it exactly how I wanted it, I'm pretty sure that I'd end up with a CPS1 cab set up for Street Fighter II but with other boards handy, if not just a Final Fight machine, and perhaps some others that are near and dear.
-
So do you guys think I could get a real (even if it's generic) jamma cabinet that works and has all you need (including monitor) for under $200?
-
Oh yeah and my Simpson's playset (Which has Larry the Looter, Slugfest, and my favorite...Nuke Canada)
no kidding! i have that too! mainly because snake is my favourite simpsons character and about the only way i could get a snake figure was the interactive one. so i thought i might as well get the diarama. im bummed snake only says two things though. id like to build those three arcade machines one day. they actually cover a good spectrum. nuke canada is trackball, larry the looter is is pre-fighter with two buttons and two joys and slugfest is fighter
-
I have the WoS too.. I have so many freaking of them. I had every single one up until like wave 14. I seriously must have 200 in and out of the package.
-
i have 3 mame machines. 1 for driving(upright), 1 for vertical (mat mania cab.), 1 for everything else (golden tee cab.)
Plus an Omni shuffle bowler and a Full Court Frenzy. (both are favorites at parties)
Wish i could afford a nice pinball, but most of my funds get soaked up in my old house ( plenty of projects)
Would also love to have a SmashTV original (fav. game) and a Ms Pac cocktail.
-
I have a Galaga cocktail cabinet and an Indiana Jones Pinball Adventure sitting next to my MAME cabinet.

I thought that slugfest was a converted cabinet (from a vanguard) ;)
