Title: How do I go about having a front end start when my PC is turned on?
Post by: roadrunnr on January 23, 2007, 09:36:46 am
Forgive me if this is an easy question - but I would like to have power given to my MAME and have it boot XP and then immediately run a front end.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You can always just drop a shortcut of your frontend into the startup folder.

The startup folder should be in this vicinity:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

You can also use Instant Sheller (http://www.tomspeirs.com/gameex/shell.htm) to hide your OS and launch your FE on startup.

If you aren't computer savvy, then you should think twice about messing around with using your FE as a shell.

Check ou tThe Launcher.. You dont have to mess with windows settings. It can start your front end, then shut down your machine when you are finished.

Start off by putting it in your startup and test it for a while

If you realize that you never need any other functionality, then your golden and can try making it your shell.

But one way is VERY easy... the other makes maintenance / configuration a pain.

Thirded..

Some fe's have trouble when they are set to the shell anyway. I wouldn't do it unless I really, really knew I could do it.

Forthed:

Question for HC:  What FE's have a problem?  You can PM me if you want to avaoid a FE war.  I just have not heard of any FE's being a problem as a shell before...(when done correctly)

Well it's not like any of them will crash or anything, but where many of them get their resolution data from the desktop, it can screw up the selected resolution.
