Title: Couple LED questions
Post by: Hockeyboy on January 22, 2007, 12:03:33 am
Trying to find some answers and I'm either typing in the wrong search parameters or just not getting what I want. I've got a couple questions regarding CP lighting with LEDs...

1. Got the Happs translucent USB trackball and it has an incandescent light underneath mounted with a small L bracket. Is there an accessory you can buy to replace it with LED lighting or do you build your own?

2. I keep hearing people talk about the different angles of LEDs and buying them in lots and then mounting them to their translucent buttons to get them to glow. I bought some translucent buttons and want to do the same thing but I can't find the tutorial that tells you how to do this, or where you get the LEDs from. (I saw somewhere that someone drilled holes into their buttons - is that the only way or just one example?) I only want to do red so buying the RGB LED PCB device isn't what I'm looking for. And, I just want a soft glow, so what MCD and angle should I look for?

Use one of these for your Happs trackball:

Someone else may be able to help with the buttons.  I only have my start buttons lit, and they work just fine with the drilling method and a super bright red LED in each.

Well, after some better search parameters I found that Divemaster sells a trackball LED light assembly - and so does Whammoed selling the Nicemite stuff - and there's two good ways to light up your translucent buttons.

:banghead: <- that's pretty much how I felt for a little while, but it looks like I'm in business now...turns out someone else asked how to do this and JoyMonkey provided pictures and a great solution: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=49831.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=49831.0) (scroll down about halfway through the page). I checked the buttons and drilling that out will be a piece o' cake.  :notworthy:
