Title: Betson 4019-02 19" Arcade Monitor?
Post by: the720k on January 21, 2007, 07:16:56 pm
I visited an arcade restoration shop last spring and had the opportunity to buy a brand new Betson Imperial 4019-02 19" arcade monitor.  I have not used it yet, as I am going to replace my current motherboard with one compatible with my ArcadeVGA card (Dell's Dimension 8250 has issues with it, according to Andy.)  I couldn't find much info at all about this monitor on Betson's website except that it is a CGA.  I was wondering if anyone on these forums has had any experience with these monitors.  The guy at the shop had just finished putting one of these into a Ms. Pac Man cocktail and praised the monitor highly, but I'm curious if it will work well with newer games running at higher resolutions.  If not, I could always sell it and buy a good multisync VGA.  No big deal.

Thanks to anyone who answers!

Jeremy

I'm using the same monitor (http://www.betson.com/products/amusement/IMP-44-4019-02) and am really happy with it.  Great color and solid construction--and perfect for 90% of the games out there.

It does look good at 480i for your VGA games, but I wouldn't go much higher than that.

Awesome.  I wasn't sure if I'd get any replies, good to see someone else is using one!  Metal Slug looks pretty good in that pic.  I didn't get any documentation at all with my monitor, but everything looks really self-explanatory (RGB/power connectors, etc.)

Just one more question: Are you using an ArcadeVGA card with that monitor?  And if so, did you need a video amp?

Man, now you got me all psyched.  Time to quit playing around waiting for my income tax refund and and order the new motherboard today.   >:D

I am using an ArcadeVGA and it's been worth every dime.  640 x 480i desktop works for most good PC games (Worms World Party is first on our list). Also, this monitor does not require a video amp: (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=34467.0) works great with a 1 volt signal.

In fact, I've got all my console outputs modified to connect to the monitor:  Dreamcast, SNES, Genesis (and Xbox, too (http://www.ultimarc.com/xba.html)).  Gotta love pure RGB!

Plus, you can modify the shelf mount quickly if you've got a rotating monitor setup (19" is a perfect size for this).  It's really the only way to go when playing vertial games...

Good luck!

Very good.  Just ordered my new motherboard today and can't wait to plug in my monitor.  I'm half-tempted to Frankenstein my Dreamcast A/V adapter and run it into the monitor this weekend so I have something to play with till the motherboard arrives....

As for rotating the monitor, I don't think I can do that easily.  Would I have to purchase some sort of bracket to allow the monitor to rotate?  It'd probably work better for my next cab, since I already had to make an extension box on the back of my Asteroids cab just so it'd fit.

Thanks so much for clearing this stuff up for me.  Glad to know I made a good buy!
