I'm looking for a decent "free" MP3+G player that will play the file full screen and has a halfway decent searchable list of songs and easy for anyone to use once up and running. Reading a ziped file would be great too.
Starting construction on jukebox/karaoke machine soon, just trying to get the ole computer loaded up with musical goodness...
Thanks for any help/opinions...

winamp has a cdg plugin but dosnt play zipped files
sax and dottys player will play zipped files and is searchable but is 45.00 USD

On the wiki:
- Freebox (required a codec, but the codec is in the Freebox package).
- The JukeBox'er (dosent what it use?).
- Arcade Music Box (direct support)
None of them may work with zip files (if Im correct?)....
Since Im stopped support of Arcade Music Box, I cant not add zip support for CDG files (it would been easy), since I use my own engine for that. Im simply lost some source for it.
I have created a commandline player for CDG for use with a frontend (but I does not know if anybody use it). It contain sourcecode also.
You can ask Barcrest (Freebox) to add zip support for CDG (if it not there allready).

He didn't like the small video window and i assume he doesn't have dual screens set up.

I'm going to try to adjust the now playing screen in Freebox and see how that works for a full screen setup.
I could possibly have dual screens, just have to locate a 20' s-video cable to hook up to the TV in the bar....
Does Freebox support the zipped MP3-G file?
Thanks for everyone's help so far...

No it doesn't support the files zipped as i have not had a request for that. To be honest your best option would be to go down the dual screen route. It lets people still browse albums etc whilst a video or karaoke is playing and people can still see that. I justed used the TV out and hooked it to my projection TV and it works a treat.

If you use NTFS, you can also let Windows compress these files on a folder in the:
- Just right click on the folder.
- Click on Properties.
- click on advanced (under general, wich should being shown).
- Compress content to save harddrive games.
Now Windows now compress all files on that folder. It should work very well for all jukebox software.
In Arcade Music Box, CDG's works very weel on windowed and fullscreen with a single screen setup, but it have not the best search feature. It was one of the funnies part to develop.
Barcrest:
Can you create a option, to let a users select fullscreen or windowed mode, like that method I did in AMB? It could example auto resize to fullscreen when igle in few seconds. When a user touch the screen in 2 secs, it change back to windowed (like a screensaver).
far for all have a dualscreen setup. It should not even distrupt, if a user not can select a song, while CDG is playing. You are curretly active anyway!

Not if you are operating in a bar or even in a party environment. Other people want to pick a song or a video whilst people are singing or watching a video. This is why dual screen is really the best method.
I tried to resize the vide whilst playing but it didn't work. I basically use active movie to draw to a picture box. I can resize the picture box but the video doesn't resize, as it sets the size thwne it starts playing... If i could work around this then i could just add a button to toggle full screen and standard size, as was requested on my forum. I will take another look at this and see if i can resize the video on the fly... Even so if you have attract mode enabled then the nowplaying screen will be switched with attact screens and will not be constant anyway.

For a home user it not a problem, so it should been a options of course. Some prefer only use single screen, other dual screen.
Did you try to use a homepage component instead? It was only that way I got this resize problem to work, and even worked with all codecs (inclusive WMV). You can normally simple double click to change fullscreen/windowed mode (but not resize the window), and use javascript to control where the video was finsish. It was that, I did in blitz+.
Later I created a new Movieplayer dll in Pure Basic for better video integration in AMB, since its movieplayer worked like a dream. But some codecs diddent work on second monitor.
Hince I use both methods: "Homepage" for the second screen, purebasic for the first screen.
Sorry, I can't send you the dll, since PureBasic restrict that. Else I would do that!
If you want, you can use/change my source code for CDG, so you can use your own native player. It ok for me. it public domain.
We should have talked about this "issue" in the other thread by surf, since it more sence there. Sorry Surf.

I have added a button to the now playing screen to switch size of the video. I can't post it on here as the attachment is too big and i don't have anywhere to upload it. Surf if you mail me i will send you the updated EXE in a zip file. Just replace your existing freebox zip with this one...

What I do is do a ctrl-f find for *.cdg on the drive with the songs, and then right click and compress them in the properties - no point compressing the mp3s since they dont compress at all (a few % for fixed bitrate ones that have silent intros)

Thanks for everyone's help, especially Barcrest, I'll have to shoot you a donation!
I still am not sure if this is the route to go with Karaoke or not, but I'm still in the testing phase...
Thanks again, I'll have to update my "wonderful" website when I start building!

Ideally dude you want to go dual screen. Trust me once you have it working man you will wonder why you didn't bother before... Good luck with what ever you do. ;)
