Title: Monitor keeps going blank
Post by: F_Zero45 on January 07, 2007, 06:00:35 pm
Having the same problem with 2 games. A Turret Tower and SF Rush. What's happening is that the monitor board keeps going out and , of course, the screen goes blank. The boards have been sent off for repair and when they are put back in the game the screen comes on for a few seconds and then goes blank. Sent boards back for repair and when we recieve them back same thing. The company that repaired the boards doesn't give a discription , in the invoice or anything, of what actually went out on the board and what went out or was replaced. What should be looked at for this kind of situation?

oh, the actual monitor & chasis have been replaced in the SF Rush, thinking it might have been something going on with it, but same thing happends.

Have you tested internal voltages with a volt meter? Power supply voltage? Do these units use a transformer for the monitors? Have you checked all solder connections, to verify that your joints are not loose? Checked loose connectors on the pcb? Checked  Molex conectors? Checked chip legs for broken legs/rust?  Tried another game board?

I'm not sure I understand if the GAME boards were sent off for repair or the MONITOR boards were. Your first post made me think the GAME boards were, but your second post made it sound like the MONITOR boards were. Can you clarify this?

Does the game play "blind" when the monitor goes blank?
(can you hear it running and coin up it up and play it but just can't see it)

What monitor models are you using / having trouble with?

Initially I would think this is a monitor problem, although you say that the monitor was totally replaced in the SF Rush and it still does it. (?)

it will be a right bummer if it turns out to be a faulty power supply
look at the facts two different game boards and two different monitors giving the same fault-highly unlikely
look towards a common component like power supply, cables or monitor remote board(this is when your multimeter pays for itself)

I am thinking dud psu in the cabinet
(assuming the psu is like mine where it powers the game board AND handles isolating the monitor supply)

sorry guys, the monitor boards are being ent for repair. The Turret Tower is fixed but the SF Rush still goes out. Amother problem. It's pretty generic.

The screen goes blank. There is sound still. then you unplug the entire game and then plug it back in the screen turns back on. It'll stay on for a day or two then goes out again. Monitor boards power supply?

What kind of monitor?  Sounds like a shutdown problem.

I just had the same issue and it was a bad monitir board, however you could have a defective isolation transformer or a lack of..
