Title: Protective button cover??
Post by: squirrellydw on January 06, 2007, 11:18:49 pm
Does anyone know where is could get some kind of button cover that flips?  I want something that I can protect the button from accidentally being push while in the middle of a game.

I want something for a normal push button, so the first link is a no and the second doesn't flip but might have to do.  Any other ideas?

Countersink the buttons and install a flip cover made from Plexiglas.

I can't, the wood is only 1/2 thick, its on a full size dart board.

Aren't those made of clear rubber so that the button can still be used, kind of like those clear rubber covers they have for keyboards and cash registers? If so, they wouldn't prevent a button from accidentally being pushed during a game.

You might be right MaximRecoil.  Happ really needs to give better descriptions of their products.  I noticed the button covers for the VLT and illuminated pushbuttons are made out of durable duraflex polyurethane film.  If the cover is just a polyurethane film then it could be pushed during gameplay.

squirrellydw, I'd send a pm to divemaster127 to find out more about that Happ pushbutton cover if you decide to go with it.  Here is the part number: 54-1006-00

That center hole is too small for a standard arcade pushbutton to fit through. It is 22.5mm which is something like 7/8". You need the hole to be 1 1/8" diameter for an arcade pushbutton. You may be able to modify it to work though.

You can fix it yourself. Just edit your post and replace it with this link:

You could put another switch in series with it, whether it be a toggle switch on the side, or another button next to it.  Two buttons would require both to be pressed to activate, or a toggle switch somewhere would allow you to enable or disable the button.

Thanks, but I just wanted a simple flip cover.  Didn't think it would be this hard.

Nice piece; you'd have to cut the inner ring out.....what is your layout that you're having such an issue with accidental pressings?

I have a dart board that I installed a credit button on and some times people are pushing it when they remove the darts which resets the game.  It's the red button on the front.

Move the credit button to the side,  replace the front button with a metal button that delivers a mild but irritating shock when pushed...

...comedy gold I tell ya!

I thought it might be kinda close to incident.  Them's appear to be some drunk folk.  Although, a simple rule to keep mind of when making things others will use: don't assume others will have the same wits about them with it that you do yourself.

(For example, my soon to be ex-'girlfriend' asked if she could have some of - what is now - my ice cream.  I said sure.  I went and looked at it, later, and the top was all pushed in.  Can't dig it. Incidentally, though some may think I'm lying or something, she's not having me out, but that I need to live alone - for obvious reasons.)
