I had this idea when i saw a a blog containing a nice looking wii arcade controller. so i thought wow! that would look sweet with my wii! only to realise that there was only one available. i scrolled down to read the comments when i noticed this guy named sw33tp34 had a 1337 as desktop controller in a shoebox.
so my project dubbed "Shoecade" which is essentially, the basics of his controller (everything being placed in a shoebox) but expanded on it adding 2 more buttons, as well as pinball flippers on the side for a bit of visual pinball action. i used a playstation hack and used a smartjoy as an interface

future plans - 2 player shoebox or any other obscure container that can house arcade parts and interface

Funny!
But, one intense game of Street Fighter, and it's all over...
-
i bet that does not hold up very well. but nice concept. I would add some wood inside to make the whole box stronger. but still look like a shoe box from the outside.
-
lol actually i just use it for visual pinball and metal slug/giga wing sorta games so it does actually hold up pretty well actually the guy who first made it, his one is pretty worn

Thats fricken awesome lp maniac. Don't let these guys discourage you from your dreams! i want to see that 2P Shoebox come to life. I don't know how to do that paper mache thing, but you could look at that to stiffen up the box maybe on the inside. I'm guessing the goal is for the outside of the shoebox to remain somewhat authentic to the shoe brand and stuff.
For the 2p your shoe size is gonna have to be BIG! :o
Staying tuned...

I like it! I'm all for the economical thing. Is that a keyboard encoder in there?

Some carefully crafted sheets of 1/8" peg-board material on the inside would really stiffen things up. I love the raw look.

um i used a playstation controller so that i can also use it for a bit of tekken 5 action! as for donkey kong i just had this krazy ass idea of maybe using a 5L container, chucking 2 8-ways. 7 buttons each, trackball then gutting my pc and installing some LED's but that dream will have to wait til i can find some spare time between doing my VCE (year 11 and year 12) and working to get some cash
EDIT! my next crazy ass idea was turning my gba and my GBAMP into a arcade cabinet dw about the interfacing coz its been pre-hacked by me to have a joystick input
