Hi all,
A work mate pointed me to this site yesterday and my whole world just went Holy !@#$, I never knew it was possible to do this and am now consumed in the quest to build my own! I spent all today reading the projects page and am consumed with a passion I havent felt since..well last weekend during a night on the town in stinking hot Melbourne, Australia (the passion is censored)
Was wondering if anyone could recommend a supplier in Australia that would sell WG D9200 monitors, 27" preferably. I've heard these are pretty good.

Welcome and good luck
try child amusements or bumperaction.com in Melb. I dont know if they can get them but it would be a place to start.
retromania and ozstick .com are also here in Australia.
Just a tip though, do your research on prices. Its often a lot cheaper to buy your stuff from the US and ship it here. Suppliers here at BYOAC like Divemaster are very competative and VERY reliable.
To give you an example an ARCADEVGA card bought from ozstick.com here will be ver.1 and set you back $150. Bought from ultimarc.com it will cost about $100 including shipping from the UK.
and just a final thought..... why not build a cab 1st off using a 22" PC monitor (sun swap meet for $100-175) It will save you a LOT of fiddling around. and buying parts to interface a PC with a arcade monitor

Thanks for the tips diverdown, looks like I'll be ringing around a bit tommrrow. I'll hang around here for a while for sure and do some research for overseas suppliers, I do really want a large screen though as it'll probably the only one I ever make and a monitor screen would be too small for me. I use 30" widescreen lcd at home for my computer and cringe when I have to work on a 19" LCD at work (Bigger is better? ). Still reading through tv's v monitor threads as I'm I totally know nothing about this yet expect for what I've read here at work today.

just fyi I have a 29" arcade monitor with an arcadevga card in my cab. My new project is going to have a 22" pc monitor (free) and a $50 vid card. I personally dont think i will build a cab with a non pc monitor due to the irratating screen problems sucha s navigating windows and playing non mame games
good luck

Do TV's in Australia use SCART connectors like in Europe ?
If so, a TV is a great monitor. You can use the RGB signal from the ArcadeVGA to drive the same signals on the SCART connector.
If you want the true classic arcade "feeling" for your cab, a real CGA (arcade) monitor or a TV set run from the SCART connector is the only way to go.

No we don't use Scart, although I still have a Nicam TV from England from when I moved out here as a kid. I'm still researchig the forums and looking at a television as a possibility, although i think i'm still leaning towards the arcade monitor.

Zax (Zax.com.au) sell new WG monitors.... but you'll be paying! 25" start @ $695aus..

oohhhh thanks for the link spriggy, cost isn't really an issue as long as I'm happy I've made the right decision. I'll keep researching this site has become a bug to me. I can't get rid of it. :)

Mordt...
IMO, if your startin' out and gonna mame...just get yourself a 19" or 21" PC monitor, decase it (plenty of info on byoac) and build a replica off from plans, such as the ones listed on jakobuds site ..... http://www.jakobud.com/
Pick a machine with the cheapest replica artwork.. available from here.. http://www.arcadeshop.com/.. or here .... http://www.phoenixarcade.com/art.htm or print your own from here ... http://www.localarcade.com/4images/
Go crazy on the byoac search function before asking... shiteloads of info on here already!!
Good luck noob! ;) :D

Jomac (http://www.jomac.net.au/) sell monitor chassis that allow you to convert any 13" to 21" TV tube to a arcade monitor.. the results are rather impressive...!!
