Title: onboard GFX
Post by: retourrbx on January 04, 2007, 04:08:32 pm
Hi - Ive just built a cocktail table running Mame...

The CPU is a little weak (celeron 700) so I have decided to buy an AM2 sempron 3000 with an MSI mobo with on board nvidia 6100 GFX chip

What I want to know is whether I will be able to play most games with this or should I upgrade to a PCI card

I am sure that I read somewhere that it is the speed of the processor not the GFX card that dictates what games can be played

If someone could advise and let me know what sort of performance I can expect from this setup Id be grateful

Many thanks in advance

RB

For the standard MAME collection, you will be good to go. If you start getting into high end CHD's you will start to have problems.

I run a 1.2 Ghz celeron and I can play pretty much everything.

you should be alright, just keep in mind onboard gfx means that it will be using up some processing power and system ram.  not a tremendous amount.  but just keep that in mind.  Also i am assuming you are connecting it to a pc monitor and not a tv.
