i really want my cab to rock when playing KillerInstinct of other games
It is a 12'sub and 2 5 1/4 mids..just a small 3 channel amp total watts r 400w rms pretty cool eh..WELL WHAT DO U THINK??
-
Looks like it will be plenty loud enough. :D
I'm currently tossing up between a car stereo and computer speakers. The advantage being that new the computer speakers work out alot cheaper but I don't think any of them will get the sound you will.
... And Hello from Australia.
-
Welcome!
It looks really good, nice start. Should be plenty loud enough to rock your hosue :) You might want to ask a mod to move this to the Project Announcements board so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle here in the Main Forum. That way we can see how you progress. Good luck.

I allways put the cart before the horse..
few Questions here..
1) As i know nothing about the control wiring i was thinking of buy'ng the X-Arcade 2 player panel and transfer everything over to my Cp to easy the pressure?
2)I have no idea what colour plastic Laminate and where to get it here in Holland
3) Also i looked at the sticky post for CP but why do people use so many joysticks,I know there is a 4 way and 8 way movement but why cant u just a 1 that does it both?
-
I'm no expert but I'll help where I can.
1) I personally think you're better off building you own, it'll work out cheaper and you obviously have the wood working skills. In terms of wiring, its really cary simple. get an IPAC or a keywiz and you'll have no problems.
2) Sorry, neither so I.
3) I have 4 8-way sticks for 4 players and one 4-way in the center for older games like pacman which don't work properly with an 8-way stick. there are some sticks that are switchable from the top of the control panel but most you have to get underneath with a screwdriver to change, hence the extra 4 way.
-
Looks like you are building yours based on Scott's Unicade. I am in the process of building mine as well. I picked up the Ultimarc Magic Stik Plus. I like them because they are switchable from the top. This means I can go from 4 way to 8 way in about 3 seconds. Then you really can use 1 for both if you want.
Nice work on your cab. I hope mine turns out that nice. For some reason I always have a problem with the mitre angles for the pieces that come together. A 90 degree angle is easy, but how do you compute the angles for the other pieces that may be more or less?
Good luck and Happy New Year.
Cheers

Hey, hey, there are some Dutchies around here (like Gizmo and RobinHolland) , but yes, this doesn't seem the biggest of hobbies in The Netherlands....
I try to promote this hobby as much as possible, was at a Retrogames fair two times (and brought my cab there !) and had a lot of interest, but only few actualy get to it....
Anyway, even the more reason to team-up !
I can get black plastic from Suzo here in Holland if you want that.
What area are you living ?
-
Hey Scum
(get an IPAC or a keywiz) i will have to research more on that.
Acevedor
When i started searching for a cabinet Scott's site was the first 1 to pop up and like it so much,it had to be my cab.
(A 90 degree angle is easy, but how do you compute the angles for the other pieces that may be more or less?) First off i built that 15 dollar saw board,it really helps for straight cut when u dont have a table saw and to get the angles i need i used a protractor(1 euro thingy) it is that half circle thingy helps alot and i used to be a house frammer for 6 years, that helps out too..
Level42
No problem here the more the merrier.Yes i think i want to do the hole cab in black and just add stickers to it.Ik woon in Apeldoorn Ge

Looking good so far! :applaud:
What are your plans for powering the amp for the sound system?
Small as my kids are...that thing would blow them back 5ft or more :laugh2:
Xam

Haha - reminds me of the scene in Back to the Future where he stands in front of the huge speaker system and blows himself back with the first chord. Damn... couldn't find an image...
Looks good so far!

Heya ducattiman.
Another one from the Netherlands here. :P
Looks pretty nice so far! I'd love to see some more when you make some progress!

"That reminds me, Marty. You better not hook up to the amplifier. There's a slight possibility of overload."
"Yeah, I'll keep that in mind"
I love that movie :P

Well, I say "Hallo" from Holland too!
Your project is coming along very well. It seems like it's allmost ready for some paint.
I guess you're right when you say it's a hobby not practioned as much as in the US for example.
-
Wow that's 5 BYOAC'ers in Holland here already :D
Let's organize a meeting :D !
-
And Level42 has infected me with the Mame virus ;D
-
Haha, yeah, get that Operation ..... cab and get going ;) Well at least I got one person interest in this hobby, that was worth dragging my Mame cab to the fairs :D
To return to the subject of this thread:
Ducattiman take a look at this Dutch site that has lots of "plakfolie" (self-adhesive foil). Don't know if that'll work for you ? http://www.kleurmijninterieur.nl
This is a direct link to their black:
http://www.kleurmijninterieur.nl/webwinkel/index.php?c=555&p=763
You can get it in high-gloss and side-gloss (which is recommended IMHO) and you can also get samples for a Euro....
P.S. turns out, Suzo don't have the black stuff anymore :( !
-
I would like to say this first THANKS to all that reply'd
And answer a few questions first.. yes i have a 20 amp power suppy kicking around for my car stereo stuff..
As this project grows.i can see my wife getting angry,i just spend way to much money when i get into things.I have a 1600wrms amp sitting in the shop and thinking hard maybe i should use it?I know a guy in germany that has the MTX JACKHAMMER WOOFER 22 inch of boom(yeah that would fit real nice :laugh2: )
http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/jackHammer.cfm
lol,,i allways have a hard time stopping when i get into it
i have no idea what plakfolie looks like and how to work it but i did find a store in holland that has a few things i like
http://www.formica.eu.com/listado_productos.php?sec=2&sub=16
i just wait and see
-
Praxis has a wide range of plakfolie, that stuff works really nice. I used it on a desk CP, you just have to make sure the surface is silky smooth because it won't hide anything. You just roll it off and press it down, piece of cake.
You shouldn't buy an x-arcade, it will cost you atleast 150/200 euro's for average quality buttons and joysticks. You can even get an idiot proof minipac with wire harness, even i managed to plug it in correctly :laugh2: Also remember it's very cool to know what exactly is happening inside your CP, it's really easy to understand. It will be a shame not going the whole way ;)
-
ok i will check out praxis tomorrow..
As for the Cp i have no idea how to wire that stuff or what or how many buttons i need,i just thought it would help to get the ball rolling faster,I need all the info on what to do
-
You really need this:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=15717.0
From your pictures, you're better at the woodworking than me.
I'm better at the electronics side. Maybe we can help eachother ? I want to replace my CP on my current cab, but I have no clue how to attach the wood panel.

What kind of games you wanna play? If you like streetfighter 2 you gonna need 6 buttons per joystick. You'll need 2 start buttons and maybe a credit or a pauze button. If you're into old old games less buttons are needed.

Stumbled over this thread (hallo, nog een nederlander :-)) and what you might be looking for is laminate. Unfortunately that's hard to get as a private person but if you have access to a KvK it's easy: Baars en Bloemhoff sells all sorts of colours and patterns. I laminated some furniture, as well as the backpanel in my kitchen (in bright red :) ) and if you know how to handle a router it's easy.
