Title: DLP TVs and P-I-P

I have been looking into buying a HDTV, and so far I think I am going with Samsung.  One thing I have noticed is that most DLP TVs do not have picture in picture.  Most all of the plasmas and LCDs have picture in picture.  Any idea as to why the DLPs don't normally have that option?

Not sure.... my samsung DLP has picture in picture.

I think it is because in the manufacturers mind, DLP sets are no longer their premier line sets -> LCD and plasmas are.  PIP has always been a more expensive add-in feature reserved for the higher end sets.

Frankly, IMHO, PIP is mostly just a novelty, and other than just farting around, rarely if ever gets used.

totally agree.  I used the PIP a couple of times when i first got my TV, and once since then to watch UFC and a hockey game.

I'm not sure if times have changed, but I have a 5 yr old rear projection CRT HDTV and you cannot use PIP while watching an HD source.  So I can use PIP with dvds and analog/digital cable, but not while watching HDTV.

Since 95% of what I watch is in HD, the PIP functionality is worthless.  If there are two shows on that I want to watch, that's what the DVR is for  :)
