Title: Got my cab up and running! Couple of questions...
Post by: needlesmcgirk on December 29, 2006, 09:53:03 am
Hey guys.  First just wanted to thank you guys for all the help.  I've finally built up the cabinet and the control panel and everything is going great.  Yesterday I got a 27" tv to use as the monitor, and I tested it by running mame on it with the control panel.  Here are my issues:

Some of the old-school game like pac-man, etc default to playing sideways on the tv instead of up and down.  I'm hoping this is an easy fix because you can't really play games like that.  Also, when I actually got 4 players going at it on the cab, the screen just started flashing and Windows was acting crazy.  I'm hnking this has to do with hot keys, but I'm wondering if running this on Widows is going to be a bad choice.

Currently I'm using Mame 32.  Please let me know what you think!  Thank you so much!

Yes that's an easy fix.... you need to set the default rotation in Mame... Mame needs to understand that you want to play a vertical games on a horizontal monitor. Otherwise it assumes that you want them displayed the way they were originally intended to be displayed, with the monitor itself rotated 90 Degrees.

You can set the default rotation in the Mame ini file and as you are using mame 32, there is an option to set it as a default directly from the interface.

Also, when I actually got 4 players going at it on the cab, the screen just started flashing and Windows was acting crazy.  I'm hnking this has to do with hot keys, but I'm wondering if running this on Widows is going to be a bad choice.

Sorry.... you need to be more precise with your second problem... "Screen flashing and windows acting crazy" doesn't tell us anything. We need to know exactly what is happening and when it is happening in order to help with this one. I also fail to see why you would think that using Windows was a problem.

Best Regards,

Sounds like you are getting the popup window for Sticky Keys in Windows.  Just go into windows and hit the shift key 5 times or so and the window will popup again.  Go into the settings for each option and untick "use shortcut" to disable them.  That will keep that from happening...

Also, make sure that you don't map keys to ALT, or DELETE playing with 4 people you are bound to hit the magical combination to shutdown windows (ALT+CTRL+DELETE).

Hey thanks for the quick responses!  I actually changed the mapping of my controls with the ipac software and I think that is going to work out.  I set the controls not to use ctrl, shift, etc and I think it will be fine.  I'm pumped about getting this thing all finished up.  I'll post some pictures sometime.

You're way better getting that mapping handled now, otherwise you'd have to rewrite controls for all your emulators and that can take a while if you have a whole lot of em.

Just the Alt key can be such a pain, it causes the screen to pause on my playstation emulator because it is trying to open the drop down menu, and Guilty Gear XX doesn't allow mapping to most of the function keys.

Sounds like you've got things covered though really.

I had this issue with the onboard intel based cards. I never could resolve the issue and had to use a PCI graphics card instead.
