I played mame the other day and realized that on her computer, it doens't anti-alias like it does on mine. I have anti-aliasing disabled in my display properties, but it still does it. Is there some way to prevent this from happening?
BTW, I'm using a GF3 Ti200 card.

No, it's a vidoe card issue. From what i understand mame only activates it if your video card supports it in hardware mode. It doesn't give you the option to turn it off.
-
why? why doesn't mame allow having the option?
-
because your video card anti-aliases it for you..you can try right clicking on the desktop and goto properties>settings>advanced and find the anti-aliasing option for your video card. You may be able to turn it off.
Best of luck!

Not really it (for mame).
Mame DOESNT use any of the 3d features at all. So setting DirectX and Opengl force FSAA doesn't matter.
but does is HWStretching. Thats basically what it does.
There is a special Geforce setting (-noblur or somethign) that takes care of what your seeing (or I'm assuming your seeing).
good luck

It's bilinear filtering. It's a "feature" of nvidia's drivers when hardware stretching is used. It can't currently be turned off. If you don't like it, then don't use hardware stretch.
Edit: You can counteract it with the switch -effect sharp but you take a huge hit on CPU power.
-
If you notice it then I guess you are using a pc monitor, so my question to you is.... why? Silly distortion, pc monitors are for desktops.
Anyway, it doesn't matter as it doesn't take a stitch of processing power. It's a true hardware feature and therefore doesn't effect anything else.

actually, H_C, I'm running on a 27" Toshiba TV. It's not as bad on the TV as on a monitor, but it's still noticable to me.
How do you go about disabling the HW stretching?
-
edit your mame.ini and set hwstretching to 0 (or is it just stretching??)
Then make sure resolutions are auto and switch resolutions and color depths are set to 1.
This is your fastest solution... when possible.

The problem with that is hwstretch is your friend. Auto resolution switching generally isn't an option (as monitors and tvs don't auto center/stretch the image for you) Imho it's best to leave it alone and deal wth it. I've played mame on toshiba tvs with the antiailasing on and to be honest I find it unlikely that any blurring you see is due to hwstretch.
