Went out of town yesterday and left the Wii plugged in with the power off. When I got back today, the Wii console was warm to the touch - kind of like a USB hard drive enclosure. Is this normal? Why would it get hot when it's turned off?
-
Because it's not actually "off". It is what you would more accurately call "standby". It's an always on device like a Tivo.

Shouldn't discussion of red hot wii's be taken offline?

yea, mine is a little above warm-almost borders hot. Especially on the left side, I guess where all the electronics are. Have mine upright, wonder how hotter it would get if I lay it down horizontally???

The system BIOS probably has a temp sensor you can get to from the GUI... most things like that do.

I unplug my power cable when i am not playing the console, they really should have made a total power off button IMO.

Why don't you just turn off the standby-mode Wiiconnect24 option?

if you hold the power button until it turns red it will be off completely
