Title: Security Code Error in Simpsins Bowling
Post by: FunWithFire on December 22, 2006, 12:31:30 am
I'm setting up Mame for the first time, and I'm trying to get Simpsons Bowling to work. It runs through both of the Rom checks then it stops on a 'Security Code Error.' I tried the 'hold F2 and hit F3' thing but it just does a soft reset and gets hung up at the same spot. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This thread is way old but I thought I'd bump it to the top since it didn't get an answer and I'm having the same issue. Maybe this will help someone in the future.

I moved my Simpson's Bowling game from my desktop PC (where it worked fine) to my arcade cabinet (where it quit working).

First, despite having all three needed rom components for Simpsons Bowling to run (konamigv.zip, simpbowl.zip, and simpbowl.chd) I couldn't get MAME to "Find" the files. Solution: Deleted the simpbowl.ini file.

Now, it boots up but I get "Security Code Error". I press F2 and then tap F3 (while still holding F2 down) and reboot the game as suggested in many places and threads, but I keep getting the to same Security Code Error. What am I doing wrong?

I've tried different variations on the holding F2 down situation but can't seem to get the game to finally work. Anyone have any ideas on this? Thx.

try deleting any old files from the nvram folder first

after that, as stated elsewhere you must hold f2 and reset the game with f3, then not release f2 until it starts the 'NOW WRITING' procedure with the bar.

if that doesn't work you probably have a broken version of MAME, or the keys remapped to something...

Thanks for the suggestion Haze. Once I deleted the nvram file as suggested ( and the config file just to be sure) for Simpson's bowling the F2/F3 button trick seemed to work fine. Got the game to initialize properly. Now plays fine.

Thanks.   :)
