Title: wiring question
Post by: jWin on December 21, 2006, 01:43:25 pm
Is it possible to wire up 2 buttons to 1 input on the Ipac-2 without causing problems?,  my control panel has the 6 button street fighter setup + a run/turbo button from mortal kombat/nba jam style,  can I link the run/turbo button with the bottom/middle button so they both do the same thing?

Secondly, on the Ipac-2 there is "shift" keys, is it possible to wire/link two inputs together to 1 button to create the shift key press when the 1 button is pressed?  like if I wire player 1 start and player 2 start together on 1 button will that create a ESC button?

thanks

Yes.  You can run multiple wires to the same terminal on the ipac so more than one button will do the same thing.  I would think that it would be easier to change the button configuration through the software though.

So you don't have an individual ESC button on your cabinet?  I don't think your idea will work - all that will happen is the playr 1 and player 2 buttons will perform the same task unless I'm not understanding what you want to do.  Someone here should know though...

Just wire the 2 buttons in parallel and it will do what you want. Basically connect the grounds to each other, the to the IPac ground. Connect the "NO" from each button to each other, then to the input on the IPac. That way either one completes the circuit.

Secondly, on the Ipac-2 there is "shift" keys, is it possible to wire/link two inputs together to 1 button to create the shift key press when the 1 button is pressed?  like if I wire player 1 start and player 2 start together on 1 button will that create a ESC button?

I'm not sure about the specifics of the I-Pac. But if the P1 button acts as the shift key, then I think you can wire one button to do a shifted command. I think you would need diodes inline from the button however to prevent a short.

For example, say the P1 is the shift key, and P2 is the additional key you want. Connect the P1 and P2 buttons normally for single button use. Take your new "shifted" button and connect it to ground. Now you connect the "NO" from that button to both the P1 and P2 inputs, placing diodes to allow current from the button to the inputs.

This should allow P1 and P2 to work normally alone and then the third button will simulate both at the same time.

I am pretty sure this will work, but lets see if someone else corrects me.

They can share inputs no prob.

Second question is a bit trickier.  Easy solution is unless you are out of buttons just wire the 'Escape' button to a free input and map it in the software.  The shift function is designed to eliminate the need for additional buttons.

thanks for the info guys,  im not sure the ipac has a ESC input in general without shift keying.

I'm pretty sure it does, but if not, then just reprogram it so it does.  Thats one of the great things about using an ipac.
