Title: How to auto-configure buttons for 6-button panel?
Post by: MartyNg on December 19, 2006, 05:26:36 pm
I just got my 6-button per player control panel set up and was wondering if there's any way to configure the controls for wacky games that don't line up as expected, such as Mortal Kombat 3, which defaults to this, which doesn't seem right.....shouldn't Low Kick be under High kick?

High Punch      Block             High Kick
Low Punch      Low Kick         Run

You can configure it in MAME however you want.  Press tab during the game and go to 'input (this game)'.

Yes, I realize that, and that's what I began doing....but I got to wondering....if there's tons of games that aren't set up right, do I have to configure them all manually?

Yup...and that button layout isn't too wacky when you consider that Mortal Kombat only has 5 buttons...2 on the left,  2 on the right and one in the middle like an "X".   The middle button (button 3) is block while the other 4 are the kick/punch buttons.

But don't forget the 'run' button! ;)    Although that's in a wacky place. Perhaps I should install a 7th button for each player after all!

MK 1 & 2 don't have the Run button, 3 and 4 do.
I set the upper middle button to block and the lower to run. It's not exact, but it's close enough for the 10 minutes a month I can stand Mortal Kombat.  >:D
