Hey guys, question.
I want to add T-Molding (or the equivalent) to the edges of my cab, and I'm on a budget so buying a router is out.
Could I just use a Slot Cutting bit in a Power Drill or a Drill Press?

The base of the router keeps the cutter stable and straight. You would have no control over the bit and more than likely ruin the edge of the wood you are working on. At worst you could seriously injure yourself.

Just as I assumed, I guess I'll rent a Router.

If you are going to rent one try and calculate the amount of time you will need it and compare it to the amount for buying one. I have done this in the past and found out that it would be cheaper to just buy the tool then I would have it for later projects.

I imagine the RPM's per tool would matter also. A router is usually around 20k or so RPM's versus a drill that is usually around 2-3k. Probably affects the cutting ability.

Also keep in mind, a slot bit in a drill will be very very dangerous. Get the right tool and be safe.

I dont know if this is a good unit or not ( i just asked in another thread.) But theres a router on sale at Lowes this week for 90$

Did my whole cabinet using the $59 bucks Ryobi at Home Depot. Work out great. And after you use the sucker, you will go on think why didn't I buy one earlier as there's so much other things I can do with it. Picked up the slot cutter bit at Lowes cause home depot didn't have them available.
And BTW, cutting plexi glass with the flush trim bit is a piece of cake, don't even need to sandwich or anything.
