I recently purchased a ms. pac man that has a monitor issue and im kinda new to this so bear with me. The monitor is a wells gardner 4700 series and the problem im having is the vertical size is flaky for lack of a better word. If you let the game sit and warm up for say a half an hour the screen adjust to allmost full screen but other wise the screen is only about 3 to four inches wide no matter how much you adjust it. Ive ordered a cap kit for the monitor but ive never done and im not even sure if this is the sort of problem a cap kit might fix , am i on the right track guys? Ive attached a pic to show what it looks like about mid warm up. Hopefully its something the cap kit will fix since i also have a pretty similiar problem with my donkey kong machine and ive got a cap kit on order for it as well.

yeah i reckon a cap kit will sort that out,the very worst would be the frame i/c or a problem with the yoke.i guess you have checked for cold solder joints already

I'd install a cap kit first. If that did't work, i'd look at the yoke. I just had a monitor that had issues with the left side being stretched and the right side squeezed ad it turned out to be a bad yoke but it had issues whether it was color or warm. Since yours fixes itself once it warms up, i'd guess the cap kit will fix it.

I'm 99% certain that's a cap problem.

Yup....
Cap kit and cold solder joints.
Should be able to take care of both issues all at once.
Are you sure it's not a K4600 series monitor?
(has two vertical standing plug-in type cards in the back)

Not sure if its a 4600 or a 4700 i dont have my part numbers here but it doesnt have two vertical standing cards in the back. I got the cap kit in the mail yesterday but i didnt even start on it yet. Instead i mounted a 21 inch computer monitor in my mame machine. I got the monitor for free from work becuase we upgraded a department to flat panels and ive got to say 21 inch versus 19 is a nice difference. Anyway ill try to start the cap kit install this evening and i wont lie im a tad on the scared side about it. The first and last time i messed with a monitor i was trying to swap picture tubes and apparently i hadnt discharged one of the tubes and i took the full discharge! I thought my arm was going to explode , this time ill probably discharge the thing a dozen times before i even start. Just curious is there a better way to discharge picture tubes other then the screw driver lamp cord thing? That seems like it would be awful hard on the tube , i would think some type of slow discharge would be better.
On a side note my collection consists of , Donkey kong, Enduro racer, sega hang on, Ms. Pacman, My mame machine, and a cockpit style sega turbo. All i need now is a Horseshoes machine , and a cocktail style capcom bowling and my collection is complete.

i am actually flirting with the idea of making a capcom bowling cocktail out of this upright cab i got. If i can only get the monitor in it to work.

Well i got the cap kit in last night and im close but not quite done. The screen looks allmost perfect but on the right hand side of the screen running from top to bottom there is a 1 inch or smaller area that is like its out of sink. When ms pacman or one of the ghosts go through that area its like the get cut up or they are behind some invisible bars. When the maze is up i can see that is look like the screen is shifted downwards say half an inch or so allmost like you ran it through a paper shredder then tryed to tape it back together but didnt quite line everthing up right. Any ideas on what could cause this?
By the way the whole fear of working on monitors is gone now. I was actually pretty dissapointed in the little snap made when discharging the monitor. I pictured a really good arc but it was pretty tame compared to some ive seen. And for refference if you dont have a piece of lamp cord and an alligator clip handy , jumper cables work pretty good plus they are more then heavy duty enough.
