Title: Hiding windows. Can't get rid of logon.
Post by: MYX on December 17, 2006, 09:22:51 pm
I am now stepping through getting windows not to look like windows. I have been on the wiki and printed out the section about hiding windows. I made the bootscreen a several months ago and it works great. I made the background 0,0,0, and diabled pop up information baloons go away in regedit. I have "changed the way users log on" and disabled the welcome screen. The problem is that I get the log on screen. I do not want the users to even see this. Is there a way to totaly bypass the welcome and log on screens? I will only have 1 user on this machine as it is a dedicated pc mounted inside a cabinet.

Which Windows are you running?  In Xp, it should only bring up the log on screen if you have more than one user created.  In Xp, you should be able to get rid of the log on screen by going to "User Accounts" in Control Panel and deleting all but one user.

Is this what you mean by "Log on Screen"?

   Sorry, if I misunderstood.

Just as it is,

Have a look here:
http://www.jakeludington.com/ask_jake/20050905_automatically_login_windows_xp.html (http://www.jakeludington.com/ask_jake/20050905_automatically_login_windows_xp.html)

It has the two methods I recommend.
1) Using control userpasswords2
2) Using Tweakui

The first method is in the wiki under the heading 'Replacing Explorer With Your FE In XP '

I assume you missed the step where it says 'Deselect the Users must enter a username and password... checkbox. ' ?

Enjoy

Man o man. I guess that is what happens when you are staring at an interlaced 640 x 480 screen on an arcade monitor for too long. :dizzy: I completely missed the run "control userpasswords2". Never saw it. Thanks Loadman!

Hey Flip, thanks too, but on the instructions it actually calls for 2 accounts.

I am a little upset because it seems to want to use the administrator account as the main account. I would have liked to choose the account I have been working in for all this time (MAME). I had to go into the regedit and reset the balloon tips and everything else that I had set up previously. Fortunatly anything set for machine and "users" stayed.

If you use TweakUI from Microsoft, you can specify a user name.

Aren't you done with your cab yet?

 ??? Never do that.

You should be able to highlight 'any' account in the list on 'userpasswords2' then  'Deselect the Users must enter a username and password... checkbox.

or use  TweakUI

Yes .. um ... no... um ... yes .. .. um no... may be?! ? ?? Um ... no.
And if is Youki's fault. I keep finding more little things I can trick the thing out with. Great fun. I have had more progress in the past 2 weeks than the past 3 months.

I thought I had clicked MAME not admin when I did it. But when I restarted, it brought up the Admin account. I can try again. For the record it is completely the same as MAME now. Yeah, I sort of tweaked out the admin setting. My family is coming for Christmas and I need this thing to be as close to a completed piece as possible.
I am also scraping the barrell for and extra cycles as possible. How hoggish is tweak? MS tends to be a pig for taking up more than their fair share of cycles. Plus, this worked. (sort of)

Tweak UI is something you run, change settings, then exit.  I assume it is making registry changes/hacks behind the scenes, but I don't really know.  So, you don't need to worry about running it while you are gaming.  If you're worried about it beyond that, I also don't think it's huge (actually, I just checked and the runtime memory footprint of TweakUI is about 38MB).
