8 years ago someone in my family started a new tradition, it started with an ugly napkin holder that was given to someone in the family. That person then had two rules they had to follow: 1. It must be displayed in their house at all times. 2. They must add something to it and give it to another family member the following Christmas.
After 8 years its gotten pretty bad and now I was just given the object at our family Christmas party. It was bound to happen since I think I'm the only one who hasn't gotten it yet.
Now I have one year to come up with something to add to it and I want to take it to the next level. I have no idea what I'm going to do, but it will be big and annoying. Maybe something that lights up or makes noises. Or maybe just find a huge megatron statue to hold up the thing. I dunno. Thats why I'm here, I'm looking for ideas. Heres some pics of what it currently looks like, and to give a reference of scale the Hulk is a little over a foot tall:

What about some fake puke, or pile of sh*t?
-
Too funny. I would definitley take it to the next level and make it a floor standing unit somehow...
-
:laugh2:
Man, this is your chance to shine!
First thing I'd do is consider who'll be getting it next, then go nuts.
I think a nice Faux marble pedestal to give it that classy artistic touch.
Fill it with motion sensor lights that also trigger sound modules emitting all kinds of shrill noises. A couple 12 volt car batteries to power them (should fit nicely into the base) and ensure you'll never run out of juice for the sound effects. (These will also add weight to the base to prevent tipping.)
If that doesn't do it for ya, you could always put a big green dildo on that Hulk statue, that would look great in someone Else's house. >:D Ha ha!

Hehe, I've been doing some searching and I think it definately needs some motion sensor lights and sounds. One problem I will have to work around if I do give it a floor standing base, or any type of base, it cannot coverup the current bottom of the thing. Whenever someone gets it, they sign their name and the year on the bottom, which is why the last addition to the base was done with plexiglass. I need to reinforce the base somehow anyways since its only 1/16th inch thick plexiglass and so flimsy the hulk breaks off 5 minutes after its glued on.
I'm going to make sure they think twice before giving it to me again :)
also, gross and/or phallic things won't be going onto it. The point is ugly, not disgusting, although I will be adding annoying to the equation.
-
Add a thicker piece of plexi with a hinge, that way you can put it on a base and still get to the bottom of the original piece for the signatures.
-
What fun! I agree you should do something with an annoying sound and motion sensor.
When I'm bored sometimes I like to do a eBay search for the word "Weird (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&maxrecordsreturned=300&frpp=50&from=R10&satitle=weird&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=17752&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1&fsoo=1)". You can spend hours looking at the freakishly weird and ugly crap people put up. It's kinda like going to a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum for free.

The local police dept here scrapped out their old squad car stuff last summer, lots of 100db sirens and such. that would take care of the loud part! Maybe check eBay for 'whalen' that was the brand name on them.
-
We do something similar. Why don't you get a beat up car for like $100 and turn this thing into a hood ornament. Then you could drive it up and park it in front of the next recipient's house. The neighbors would love it.

I did a search for motion activated toys and came across this. It would be pretty hilarious having it next to the hulk and everytime you walk by it says something like "dead or alive, your coming with me"

A couple other motion activated things I came across:
Dancing Slimer that plays the ghost busters music (http://www.amazingcomics.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=neca31971!NECA&csurl=%2FiStar%2Easp%3Fa%3D29%26sort%3Dalpha%26)
Scarface that says lines from the movie (http://www.amazingcomics.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=neca42090!NECA&csurl=%2FiStar%2Easp%3Fa%3D29%26sort%3Dalpha%26)
Steer Skull? (http://www.magicandnovelties.com/cart.php?session_id=1077e&item=170) definately odd
I may have to get this one for myself ;D
Dancing and singing sound activated Gizmo (http://www.amazingcomics.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=NECA30630!NECA&csurl=%2FiStar%2Easp%3Fa%3D29%26search%3Dmotion%2Bactivated%26sortby%3D%26numperpage%3D20%26pos%3D20%26)
I have a year before I give it to the next person, so I have plenty of time to decide.
-
Since I'll be adding a thick plexiglass (or maybe real glass, haven't decided) base, I could embed some light wire into it http://glowproducts.ca/catalog/i11.html
or even strobe wire ;D http://glowproducts.ca/catalog/i9.html

I'm too lazy to find a link right now, but I used to have the gopher from the Caddy Shack movies. Though not motion sensitive, if you press a button he would sing and dance. ;D
You could probably take any toy that triggers with the push of a button and put a motion-sensing circuit on it. You can find circuit diagrams online. Radio Shack even used to sell booklets with that stuff, but I doubt they do anymore.

Hehe, nice. I was wondering if it would be difficult to install a motion sensing circuit. I'll have to do some searching and see whats available.

Drop a butt-plug on that napkin holder and you will rein supreme forever.
Edit: ohhh... hang on
also, gross and/or phallic things won't be going onto it.
Carry on.
-
A friend recommended I attach it to a roomba so it will just wander around peoples houses. I thought that was pretty funny.
-
We have had the same sort of thing in our family. Same rules etc.
I recommend adding a "farting gnome"
Thats what we have and I was lucky enough to recieve it this year. It has to be at the front door and turned on. Everytime someone walks past it it farts.
Its funny for about 30 seconds... then for the rest of the year it is just annoying.
The only benafit I have found in the past few days is It gives me something other than the dog to blame :laugh2:

Put everything (the whole mess you've got now) on top of one of these....

Well time is almost up and so far I've only bought some thicker plexiglass to put it on and some lightwire to wrap around it. I thought I would bring this topic back and see if anyone has any new ideas. I found a talking homer hula doll that would work quite well, but I'd like to rig the button to a motion or sound sensor if I did get that.
-
Add one of these and your new base and lights, it'll definitely add the annoying aspect you are looking for.
-
Two words:
Fuzzy.
Dice.

This is what I'm thinking of adding, but do you guys think its possible to make him motion or sound activated without destroying him? And does anyone have a link to a cheap or easy to build motion or sound activated circuits I could add to it?
-
Does anyone think I might be able to take the sound activation part out of these toy cats and just connect the wires to the switch on the hula homer?

You want ugly? Print out all of my posts and put them on it.

Mount it to an arcade cabinet.

I actually considered that at one point, but its too late now and I don't have enough money to do that anyways.
I'm guessing the lack of answers to my question about using the sound activation out of the toy cats means that no one sees anything inherently wrong with doing that...or at the very least no one as any clue if it will work...either way I guess I'll go ahead and order them and see if it will work.
edit* crap, just realized the cats are backordered. I guess I'll have to find some other inexpensive sound or motion activated thing to take the parts from.

If you've got a store called Five Below near you, check it out. They've usually got a whole wall of sound/noise maker keychain things, and I'm sure there's a sound or motion activated one in there somewhere.

Heh,
well I bought the Homer Hula doll and the sound activated cats came back into stock, so I ordered one of them as well. I've already cut out a thick piece of plexi to enlarge and re-enforce the bottom (the current one bends too much so the hulk keeps breaking off), and I also ordered the light wire which should come any day. I've already gotten the homer doll, so once the cat arrives I'll try to take it apart and wire the sound activation to homer. My main concern is that if you push homers talking button while he's mid sentence, he immediately starts saying something else, so if I connect the sound activated thing, he'll keep giving sentence fragments until the room gets quiet....I guess if I want it to be annoying, then that could be a good thing.
-
Well unfortunately it looks like I was right about the sentence fragments. I took homer and the cat apart, and after a little bit of soldering and some wiring I got them working together. It looks like I may have tapped into the wrong spot on the cat since homer seems to be getting the pulsing power that made the cats head jump up and down, so I'm going to mess with it a bit more and see if I can get it to work.
Here's a video of what homer down now when I make a sound (you can hear my fingers snap to make it go)

Make it work? What are you thinking, that's so much better than a successful Frankentoy. If annoying was the goal, a stuttering hula homer is tough to beat.
