Title: Easy way to backup a complete Windows/MAMEWAH installation?
Post by: Turnarcades on December 10, 2006, 09:37:18 am
I've noticed a lot of people here are trying to get a definitive operating system/emulator/frontend bootdisk made for easy cabinet install. Unfotunately, none of them suit me as I use Windows XP for easy tweaking and follow-up programming.

As I now have my cabinet, frontend, Windows, drivers and emulator setups how I like them, what would be the easiest way to back these up for easy re-installation, should my PC go down? I can just back-up the roms and frontends etc. to another drve, but I'd like to retain my XP tweaks, folder arrangement and other settings like that to save me time in the event of a shut-down.Can I just use NortonGhost or similar to create a start-up disk(s) and put it back to normal?

Any ideas welcome, but I want to keep my current Windows filing system intact, as messing with .ini files for MAMEWAH baecomes a nuisance if I have to re-install.

This is how I do it.  Hope it helps.  I have all my ROMs on RAID drives and my OS/front end on its own drive.  The OS drive I back up by Ghosting it to CD.  I use Norton Ghost and yes it can span multiple CDs.

Not bad for a first post if I do say so myself. ;D

Symantec Ghost - I have my entire drive backed up, and can restore to any other drive that has at least the same amount of space within 30 minutes. It even supports spanning and burning direct to CD\DVD with some drives, so you don't even have to have another hard drive hooked up.
