Title: Absolute Beginner needs help please!

Help!
I am an absolute beginner to robots and related subjects. I am interested in building an arcade machine reminescent of the late 70's and early eighties. I'd like to be able to play four games on the machine (Asteroids-Centepede-Galaga-PacMan) just like we did back 25 years ago. How would I go about doing this? Any info, links, tips, etc., woulld be GREATLY appreciated! Again I am an absolute beginner and know nothing!
