I am in the planning stages of building a jukebox.
What are the best type of speakers for a PC Jukebox?
Computer speakers? 2.1 or 5.1? I was thinking maybe the Logitech Z5500 (5.1) or Bose Companion 5 (2.1).
Or would it be better to buy an amp and add some home speakers or theatre speakers or what?
Computer speakers sound the easiest, but I am planning on a nice furniture quality Jukebox with some awesome sound. I know 2.1 is great for Mp3, but I may have videos on there too.

I think for 2.1 you'd have a tough time beating the Logitech Z-2300's.
I used a set in a juke project recently and was blow away by the bass coming out of them. I have since purchased a couple more sets for future projects. They normally go on sale up here for $100 Canadian which is a steal for the sound they produce.
I would say they rival the home speakers/amp in my Metal Station. If I did that one over again I would use the Logitechs.

I use the Klipsch Pro-media 2.1 in mine. I love the sound that comes out of them. You can pick them up for under $100 on ebay directly from Klipsch.

Would I be going overboard by getting 5.1? I was planning on getting a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi sound card and would like to utilize it.
My Arcade has the Klipsch Pro-Media 5.1 and it sounds great, but I have been reading some great reviews on the Logitech Z5500's.

I would go with 2.1 most music was not recorded in surround I think even on home setup 5.1 just doesn't sound wright. just my preference.

i got the creative 5.1 £50 and a creative extigy and wow does this sound great on films ganes the lot you could even USB it to a pc and send the sounds directly to it and then to the speakers. 10/10 is what i say so well worth it but it might be OTT in a arcade machine depends

Great. That's exactly what I wanted to hear since I just picked up a pair of these for $100 bucks this past weekend for my new cab. Last month they were $140. ;D. It may be that they are just trying to liquidate them due to newer models.
