Yes, Laserdisc Support is Coming
Not everything is nailed down yet, and it will probably take a couple of months to materialize, but those are the basics. The first game I’m looking at is obviously Dragon’s Lair, but coincidentally, I just received in the mail a driver for the American Laser Games series of shooters as well, which were all run on an Amiga 500 with a genlock. Fortunately, the Amiga emulation is pretty decent these days, so things are progressing well there.
Now that the basic system is up and running, I’m hoping others can help get the rest of the laser games moving forward. In 0.110u4 I included support for a couple of common laserdisc players. Even though you can’t see any video yet, you can at least watch their operation to see if things are working properly. In 0.110u5 I’ll have support for the Sony LDP-1450 laserdisc player and the ability to display dummy frames (each frame is solid color and gets a unique Cb/Cr value) so that you get a little better sense of the operation. And hopefully in the next month or so, I’ll have the first video running at last….
Yeah !

While it is cool that Laser Games will be emulated in MAME, DL, DL2, Space Ace, and a number of others are already emulated via Daphne. I am looking forward to the games that Daphne DOESN'T emulate.

Yeah, I want to play Mad Dog McCree and the other American Laser Games. I'm perfectly happy with Daphne for Dragon's Lair.

Star Rider is the game I've been waiting for.
Time to cough up for some serious storage space tho! (but worth it) for those big lossless rips.

Storage is cheap. Drive prices are insane. Half a terabyte for $150 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822152052). Unreal.

Mad Dog and the other ALG are avail on cd for nearly nothing. I picked up 4 of them for under $10 total, run them off the HD with the Top Gun and it's super nice. Games are higher res on the XP version cd-roms so keep that in mind if you purchase.

I remember back at school (uk) when they got a 10MB Whinchester hard drive for our BBC network, cost £400+. It is quite scary how bang for buck keeps getting better.

I look forward to seeing all games one day emulated in MAME. Let's face it, it's come a long way since Nicola Salmoria nailed that Pac-Man emulation back in the day.
MAME was intended to be THE complete cataloging of arcade emulation. Over the years they have incorporated code from many contributors, and, love it or hate it, they have tried to do it in as simple a way as possible.
OK, DAPHNE and other system emulators like Zinc etc may have more tweaks and features, but if they can simplify emulation to just be a couple of files without much configuration (as when CHD games were first emulated, requiring just a rom and a chd file) then that's got to be a good thing.
I struggled with DAPHNE's configuration, as I imagine many people did. Plus, wouldn't you love to have them all running from the same emulator? At least you get consistency and only have to set up one emulator.
Fair play to you guys on development. Laserdisc, HD or indeed anything else will be a welcome addition, no matter how long it takes.
