Title: Mala error help
Post by: Highpower on December 03, 2006, 06:50:26 pm
First post, i've been reading this site for the past few months.
I built a cabinet and am running Mala following Uncle T's awesome tutorial  :notworthy:. I have command line mame and various other emulators on it running however when I exit Mala and try to enter back in most of the time I get this error.

Mala.exe

Mala.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience .
Then the only option I have is to close.

I have to keep clicking on Mala over and over and the error pops up each time. Sometimes I can get by it with a few tries others it takes 15 or more to open the program successfully.
I don't see an uninstall feature for Mala so I just deleted the entire folder, downloaded it again and installed, still the same unknown error.

I'm using a 3.0ghz Dell Optiplex260 with Windows XP SP2.

Any ideas? If its a Windows error do I have to format? It was a clean copy when I installed mala on it.

I wouldn't re-install Windows just yet. If it's a bug in Mala, swindus would probably appreciate it if you could help him isolate the problem so he can fix it.

In the mean time, make sure:

- You have the latest BIOS/Drivers for your motherboard (from your motherboard manufacturers website)
- Make sure you have the latest Video card drivers. I'm not sure if Mala uses DirectDraw but GameEx users are experiencing some problems with the latest ATI drivers. Rolling back a few versions seems to fix it.
- Disable any anti-virus or memory resident software and see if the same issue occurs.
- Do a Windows update to make sure your OS is patched and up to date
- Do a Scandisk/Defrag/Virus Scan/Spyware scan

I doubt its a windows problem, common probs are bogus sound card drivers or snapshot/video file errors.

I would enable the error log.

There is a check box on the config-credits tag.

This will create a mala.exe.log file the next time you lanuch MaLa.

Hopefully this will show the problem.

Here is an excerpt from my error log. These are the three notorious ones.

2006/12/02  23:46:33.73   Error: Object Class: TfrmMain, Object Function: GpKeyboardHook1KeyAction, Exception Class: EAccessViolation, Exception Message: Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004BB964 in Modul 'MaLa.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 0214A000

2006/12/02  23:46:59.48   Error: Object Class: TfrmMain, Object Function: LoadPicture, Exception Class: EAccessViolation, Exception Message: Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004BB964 in Modul 'MaLa.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 0214A000

2006/12/03  16:30:07.14   Error: Object Class: TPopupList, Object Function: GetGameListExtension, Exception Class: EAccessViolation, Exception Message: Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 005E07DF in Modul 'MaLa.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 00000004

If I had to take a guess its the first error. I just started working with Mala so I don't know what a keyboardhook1key is.

Headkaze: I'll try and update some of my drivers, I did just install an AGP video card but I didn't have Mala on the computer yet to see if the old one had the same problems.
