Hi all, I got an old Joust cab with a single speaker. Can I just splice the wires into a headphone or speaker plug and then plug it into the PC's soundcard? Or do I need an amplifier or something else? Thanks in advance!

You will probably want some sort of amp in there TBH. The soundcard output is basically not gonna drive a speaker on its own. It will make some sound I imagine but most likely not a lot of it.
Easiest and possibly cheapest option would be hack up a pair of PC speakers for their amplifier.

Probably easier to go buy $10 speaker set from WalMart or something than spend time hacking something. Besides, then you get 2 speakers.

Go to Freecycle.org... sign up for your local group... ask for a set of PC speakers. So many people have an extra set of powered speakers lying around odds are pretty good you'll get one free.

You will need to power the speakers, somehow.

That link will take you to a hack that is cake. I ordered a 4-inch speaker set from The Real Bob Roberts that are 8 ohm shielded speakers. Make sure you get shielded, or it could mess up you monitor. I think you can buy them individually, too.
The hack is super simple, and works well. There are other ways to sneak the sound control into your cab. I have mine hidden under the player one CP on my cocktail. It won't matter if you stay with one speaker, or not. The only difference is you won't get stereo sound for games that have it. If you're going with only old-school games, it won't matter.
Hope that helps.
