Title: Light Gun Question
Post by: FrizzleFried on November 29, 2006, 03:21:38 pm
It is my understanding that the ACT Lightgun and others use a process where the screen flashes in order to determine position of the guns aim.   The negitive byproduct of this process is that on screen crosshairs only get updated when the trigger is pulled.

Are there controllers out there commercially available that track the position of the gun at all times which would then allow the crosshairs to track with the gun?

search for lcd topgun. They use led's to track the gun. Works on any monitor type. Newer arcade shooting games use the same technology.

I think i know what you are talking about....requires some strips to be installed or something?   I am not sure how well that would look with a cabinet?

It looks perfectly normal with a cabinet.... There are several ways to do it.

1) Make them obvious, like "House of the dead 2 3 4 and now 5" or like "Time Chrisis 4" or like several other current games.

2) hide them behind the bezel and only have the tips of the Infra Red LEDs on show.

3) They also work perfectly well behind smoked glass too, because they're infra red, just like a TV Remote... So if you have smoked glass you can hide them behind that and not see them at all.

Looks fine any way.
