I have a hand me down system all set up (xp1600 with 768 pc133ram 40gb hd)
but the only OS I have is win 95 (legal of course)
ive been messing around with mame 32 on xp pro (on my dell) p4 2.5ghz and it's pretty cool

and is there anyfront ends that work with 95?

Mame will work just fine on Windows 95. Since you are interested in using a front end, I would recommend the command line version - less overhead.
Officially, AtomicFE works with Windows 98 and higher, but I have never tested it on 95. If I can find my Win95 CD, I'll fire it up in VirtualPC and give it a try. I'll keep you posted...
Hopefully we can get Atomic working for you. In the mean time, you can check it out here:
http://www.atomicfe.com/EN2 (http://www.atomicfe.com/EN2)
IMHO it's the best documented front end out there, complete with a troubleshooting section...

Thanks Havok
I like atomic FE I been using it on the dell (xp pro my main rig) and it's great
so I will try it out this weekend and load up the os with a FE if you dont have a chance!!
But thanks for the help!!

No problem! I did a quick setup, but my virtual session needs tweaking. I can tell you this so far:
1. You will need the gdiplus.dll Youki has available for download
2. You need to be running DirectX 7.0 or higher
3. It appears that AtomicFE also requires hid.dll, which is a USB driver. This means that for any chance at all for this to work in Windows 95, you will have to have release 2.1 or 2.5 (the only two that have USB support - I happen to have 2.1)
By default USB support is not enabled, even with these two releases. Check out this site to find out more about USB support, and how to determine which version of Windows 95 you have:
http://www.usbman.com/Win95%20USB%20Guide.htm (http://www.usbman.com/Win95%20USB%20Guide.htm)
Good luck, and I'll let you know what I come up with...

The USB support is only for LEDWiz and GPWIZ support.
So if you don't use that device , i guess even if your win95 doesn't support usb , if you simply copy that HID.DLL in your windows System directory or in AtomicFe folder , it should be enough to workaround this problem.
Anyway, if we don't succeed with AtomicFe 0.18, as i said you by PM , i will give you a link to an Atomic 0.15 , this version does not use DirectShow and USB. that could cause problem on Win95.

C'mon man you are making life hard for yourself. :(
... I mean also technically you are meant to own most roms (Like the chips on the original mainboard) before you can use them in MAME ;)
I don't think anyone would really care if you had a special copy of Win98se to drive a dinosaur of a PC. Its a Ten year old OS.
Life would not be so tough for you then. :)
Hell I'll sell you my original Windows98se upgrade CD for .25c
If you send a few bucks to post it to you for Australia.
But I'm sure you can find a better deal than that locally if look around.
You have a slow PC, Please don't cripple it any further by using Windows 95
I just can't bear with the pain of this arrangement... :-[ The Pain The Pain Crazy stuff ;D
;)

lol thanks for the info
I had win 98 around but like everything itjust got lost around in my mess of a garage.
I also have xp cd's but those are dell's recovery cds so it wont work either :(
if I can find it this weekend I will of course put in the newer version OS but last thing I wanted to do was to get some hacked version off BT and might be buggier than 95
thats the only reasion why im using 95
I will try anadtech to see if some one is selling a 98 for cheap (but then again I didnt want to really spend $$ on this little project heh)

Try and get Windows 98 Second Edition. It's your best bet before XP. And avoid ME best you can ;)
