Title: Alva Amusement monitors and replacement chassis
Post by: Ken Layton on November 28, 2006, 12:22:02 pm
I see that Alva Amusement now has medium resolution 19" monitors on their site. Heck even standard resolution complete monitors have come down in price.

Wei-Ya model M1520H medium resolution 19" monitor $305

Wei-Ya model M820H standard resolution 19" monitor $134.95 (needs isolation)

Wei-Ya model M2820H standard res 19" monitor $139.95 (doesn't need isolation)

Wei-Ya model 825H replacement chassis for Wells 25" k7191 is $76.00 (needs isolation)

Are the wei-ya chassis alot better than the crap 8 liner chassis? I have an 8 liner and the geometrics suck. I cant play a good game of battle toads with out getting a headache the pincushion ect is so bad...

Ken,
I have a question. I want to get a standard res chassis (one that doesnt need isolation transformer) for my 27" crt. It seems the alva chassis is for low vert. impendance yokes....As stated before i have a 8 liner i bought from here http://www.8liners.com/datatech/monitor.html (http://www.8liners.com/datatech/monitor.html) and I had to add a 10 watt 1ohm resistor to the horizontal (red) wire. My question is can I buy the alva chassis and simply hook it up to my current setup with the 10watt 1ohm resistor?

Thanks,

-Kyle

The Wei-ya # 826H chassis should work and it's made for low impedances. It's only $76 for the chassis from Alva. Of course if you want to ensure 100% compatibilty and perfect picture, you could order the matched yoke (#65150) for the 826H chassis. The yoke is only $25.

Why did you put a resistor on the yoke?

The 76 dollar chassis require an isolation transformer dont they? Also how hard is to replace the yoke off my existing monitor?

2628H does not need isolation. The 826H needs isolation transformer.

Changing yokes is the same as doing a tube swap. See these sites:

Thanks for the loads of info Ken. I have one question, how exactly can I measure my vertical / horizontal ohms on my current yoke? Do i need to discharge the monitor before checking the ohms?

With power to the monitor disconnected, unplug the yoke connector from the chassis. Get out the digital multimeter set on DC resistance on it's lowest scale. Then you put the meter leads into the yoke connector. In general the red and blue yoke wires are the horizontal section. The green and yellow are usually the vertical section.

Im still waiting for some price quotes on the chassis and yoke. Alva's customer service doesn't seem to on the ball.
