Title: Going to check out a Smash TV today
Post by: Dervacumen on November 28, 2006, 11:41:06 am

It's in storage and everything supposedly works except the right joystick doesn't fire to the right.  The guy says it needs to be resoldered.

I'll may have a new project on my hands tomorrow.

God the wife is going to be thrilled.

Anything I should pay special attention to on this machine?

The San Francisco Craigslist scene is dog-eat-dog.  Good luck!

They mostly all are now.  There is someone in the Boston area that reports all the other hobbyist's posts as fraudulent and has them taken down within minutes of posting.  Every time.

Tell me about it.  I almost gave up before even calling.  I did get two nice vintage pachinko machines last year though.

Fraudulent on what grounds?

The machine is in pretty good condition!  It's a 25".

Apparently the one of this guy's fiends took it to his house, then later got arrested and sent to jail and he hasn't been seen since.  So this guy's mom tells him to sell the machine to get money to take the jailed dude's daughter bowling or something.

Then he posts it on CL a few times over the last month but never gets a response.  So each time he lowers the price.  Then when it's finally down to $100 he realizes he has to confirm the posting via email before it actually gets posted on CL.  And it showed up this morning and I bought it.

Man I learned a lot more about this guy.

The P1 stick isn't firing.  The sound isn't working but the guy says it was working well (and very loud) before he moved it into storage.  No screen burn in to speak of, monitor is in good shape.  The locks on the over under coin door are missing, and there is no key for the lock on the back panel.
One of the wheels is missing.

The CP is a bit dirty but no burn marks or major blemishes.  The joysticks have a little bit of rust right under the knobs.  The sideart has a few minor knicks.  Even the t-moulding is in pretty good shape.

It's pretty clean, really.  I can't wait to lug it home later tonight or tomorrow.

Looks like a new project on the way.

They're not.  But Craigslist doesn't verify.  It just pulls.

So I've got the machine in my minivan.   Man!  We just bought this van 2 weeks ago.  It's a freakin' cavern in there.
Anyway, this is my first cabinet purchase.  I'll have to figure out what to do with it.
Guess I'll get some ideas from the main forum.

That fellow I bought it from was supposed to meet me at his girlfriend's place to help me load it.  They never returned my calls so I drove over there to see what the deal was.  The cabinet was sitting in the carport so I just loaded it up and left.

He'll probably think it got stolen.  Anyway I'm a trusting sort and paid him yesterday so we're all good.  I already had his phone number, his girlfriends phone number and his girlfriend's address.  I wouldn't suggest going this route, but I just happened upon an unexpected $200 for building my dad a computer over Thanksgiving.  Sometimes you just have a feeling that things will work out.  Luckily I wasn't burned this time.

If anyone lives in the Bay Area and is looking for a hovercraft for vacationing at the delta, he's got one for sale for $400.

Well im glad this worked out, as it could have easily been a typo for a "smashed tv arcade game"
