I am not an eye doctor, and I don't play one on tv.
A few years back I went to the eye doctor for a check up. She asked me what I did and if I work on computers, because I was going to need a stronger perscription. I told her I work on a computer for most of the day. After that she ended up mentioning that I should have a lamp on my desk if its not in a well lit room. She said it should be behind my monitor and the light source should be about 13% of the light in the room.
I am not sure how to measure this, but if I recall correctly, she said just guess. Well anyway, I thought I would mention this because from time to time people wonder about the strain playing on a cabinet causes your eyes to undergo. Incorperating this idea and the tinted plexi may make for a less strenous (on your eyes, at least) experience.
Just thought I would share.

Funny, I remember reading a manual for an old (we're talking late 50's I think) b/w TV in which they recommend putting TV in a corner, preferably placing a dim lightsource behind it making the picture easier to view.
To lessen eyestrain cabinet-wise I was also thinking about using tinted plexi combined with RGB TV input instead of composite/s-vid to make the picture as clear as possible.

The marquee lamp sounds like it's doing that job already!

Not the way I understood her. She said behind. The marquee is above. But, I am not an eye doctor, so I don't know.

I don't know about that, but my best friends dad is an optomitrist and he says you need to look at objects in the distance every 20 - 30 minutes to reduce eye strain. My eyes started going bad after 4 years of heavy PC usage. It hasn't gotten any worse since I started doing that..

Well there is more than one way to skin a fish...er cat. haha
Like I said, I'm not a doctor, I dunno. But that is what she told me. Wether she was right or not is a differnet story.
