This brings up an interesting question. Is the PS3 able to boot using a Linux Live CD? If it is then it would be possible to make a Live CD that boots straight to a frontend. I can imagine different Live cds for different emulators, with each Live DVD containing a large number of roms. Hmmmmm. I may have to pick up a PS3 after all.

OR just get a modded xbox with a larger hard drive. plays 90% of the game 100% full speed. some 3d crap like battle arena or tekken wont play but those games suck anyway.
point is, this is not a reason to get a ps3 now.

Sorry, not interested in anything made by Microsoft. My house is and will continue to be Microsoft free.

I don't know how the sheer processing power compares to a typical home PC, but I would love to play Killer Instinct at full frame rate. It also seem like there's no reason why I couldn't have the full library of NES, SNES, Genesis, etc.
Maybe it's not a reason to go buying a PS3 just yet, but I've got one already so this is an avenue I'd like to explore.

but a modded xbox can't play the next-gen games or have any of those next-gen features (blue-ray, etc.).
So this capability may not be the sole reason to get a ps3 now, but for someone who wants a next-gen system and also wants to do emulation, it certainly makes a case for it.

I read today somewhere...I think ps3spot...that somebody has ripped madden 07 to an external HDD using the linux frontend...it came out as 7 gig. Here's the link:

Should be interesting to see what develops.
