Title: Cocktail Game List?
Post by: Fusion Disaster on November 20, 2006, 01:23:46 am
I'm finishing up work on my new cocktail mame cabinet. I already have a full size 4-player mame cab, so I want this one to only play 2 player head-to-head cocktail games, or 1 player vertical cocktail games. Classics like pac-man, frogger, donkey kong, galaga, 1941, etc.

Does anyone know the best way to sort these games out of the full mame game list? I tried using mame content manager with the MCM.ini but it doesn't have a "cocktail" category.

I suppose I could use MCM to first sort out table top games, mahjong, trivia, etc. And then manually pull the roms that I desire. But I thought I would check here first as I'm sure someone has gone through this for one of their cabs before.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Brian.

You might want to checkout http://hem.passagen.se/robert.palmqvist/index.html and then SortInfo in the download section. I haven't used it myself, but it looks promising.
With this tool you can sort out which games need how many buttons, a 4way-stick, trackball, and much more.

You could check maws (http://www.mameworld.net/maws/) and do a filter on vertical games.  Click on the "deluxe search" on the top.

MaMeNnO: I tried using this program. It appears I need to generate a listinfo.txt file, however it seems the newest version of MAME (v 0.110) no longer supports the (c:\mame\mame.exe -listinfo > listinfo.txt) tag, and my attempts to download list2info and run (c:\mame\mame.exe -listxml | xml2info > listinfo.txt) fail. Am I doing something wrong?

javeryh: MAWS works really well to generate a game list. Is there a way to export this list into an .ini and run it through MAME Content Manager or another similair program to batch sort out the ROMS?

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Also as far as categories, I think if I generate a list for Vertical orientation games, with 4-way & 2-way joysticks that should meet my needs. And then sort out any mature or clone games. Anything else I should include or omit on my cocktail cab (2 players, head-to-head, vertical monitor, 4-way joysticks, 2 buttons per player).

Thanks for all the help!

Brian.

You could try my utility too:

Provided the -listxml function still actually provides an xml output file, this should still work.

Yikes! You are waaaaay over my head right now.  Other than doing it manually (which is how I do everything) I have no idea...  sorry!

Maybe someone will post something good though because I'm building a vertical cab right now and I'd love to filter out those games easily...

To be honest, I don't know. As I said, I haven't used it myself. From the screenshots I've seen it should be useful ( http://www.retrospieler.de/ (http://www.retrospieler.de/) and then click statistics on the right). Sorry, can't help you out on this.
