Wondering if there is any way to get Mala to switch game lists based on a specific key press... For example, with the 'A' key pressed, one list would be displayed, while with 'B' pressed, another would show. I'm planning a vertical cabinet using a Mag-Stik Plus, and would like to mount switches that would be depressed depending on what mode the stick is in, and then have a corresponding game list display based on the key that's pressed - result would be a list of 4 way games displaying when in 4 way mode, and 8 way for 8 way mode.
Hoping there might be a way to set this up using the controller mapping, but from what I can tell that only allows for one list per screen orientation, not two different lists for a single orientation. Anyone know of a way to do what I'm looking to?
If Mala can't do it, would certainly consider a different frontend if one exists that has the ability to assign a specific key to a particular list...

AtomicFE can switch between the main list and the favorites list by pressing the Player1 Button3 button (which is user-definable with the AtomicKeys program.) You could have your 4 way games on the main list, and the 8 ways on the favorites...
Time to switch!
;D

You can do this with MaLa. There are keys to switch to the next and the previous game list in the controller mapping. You can have unlimited game lists per screen orientation, there is no restriction.
If you want to use only two lists then you can switch with the next and previous game list command between these lists. Or you can activate cycling for the game lists and then you can switch beetween the game lists with one button, one after another.
No need to switch!
;)

Havok that old routine is getting old ::)
Not everyone uses AtomicFE time to get over it!

Just answering a question, which Mala can apparently do, as well as AtomicFE. Plus, made a humorous comment about changing over, since the OP did mention. Does this look familiar?

Do you have anything relevant to the question? If not, then I suggest you go back to the GameEx forum...

Your comment was not relevant to the question, the subject is "Hotkey-ing specific game list in Mala.. Possible?". Not AtomicFE, learn to read! It's getting old when you come into unrelated threads and crap on about AtomicFE (read: not funny anymore). I think it's time you went back to the AtomicFE forums...

Wouldn't mind the bit about AtomicFE (as I did ask if other FEs could do what I'm looking for), but the functionality that both exhibit to cycle through lists back and forth with buttons is not precisely what I'm looking for for two reasons:
· the way this would be set up, the button would be held down, resulting in continual cycling of lists, and
· if the joystick were switched between 4 and 8 way while not in the menu (with the power off or while in game), the lists would get out of sync with the setting of the joystick.
The Mag-stik Plus has a lever that protrudes, which I would want to have activate one microswitch in 4 way mode and another in 8 way mode. What I'd like to do is have a specific list selected when either of these buttons is depressed.

Okay my mistake, I missed you asking about other FE's. But Havok does tend to promote Atomic even in unrelated threads.

Why would the button be held down?

Why would the button be held down?
The way the thing would be setup mechanically, when the joystick is in position, the lever that's activating the microswitch will remain in place, keeping the switch held down. The lever which will be activating the switch can be seen in the diagram borrowed from Ultimarc's site... You can see it on the right side of the stick. I'd be setting it up so that the lever contacts a different switch at either side of it's travel - for 4 and 8 way.

Apology accepted.
BTW - I only promote AtomicFE if it's a viable alternative. There are some features that one or the other don't have that you may want. Like this situation. I'll see if I can come up with a solution, since it looks like Mala and AtomicFE don't quite have what grueinthebox is looking for out of the box.
Of course, we're still waiting for any help from you, Headkaze - instead of you ragging on someone that actually attempted to suggest a solution to the question...

I never apologised. You get on my nerves everytime you hijack threads with the same old dribble, most of the time I hold my tounge but not today. I'm not sorry I pointed out it annoys me.

I understand what you want now (I'm a bit slow)..
I don't think 'either' front end has exactly what you are looking for.
EG specifying specific keys/button for a specific game list :dunno The closest you could get (as already suggested) is have just two game lists clearly labled and have ONE button allocated to alternate Between the two
Sorry

Yeah I was a bit confused myself, probably because I have no idea how 4/8 way's work. But it seems a little strange that switching over would mean a switch is held down. A solution would be to use an AutoIt script that would allow you to map the keys by pressing some key to switch between the two. But I doubt it would be a very easy script to write.

:tool:
Thanks for finally contributing something towards the thread instead of just attacking me (who actually attempted to help). I don't care what annoys you, and will continue to suggest alternatives if the poster especially ASKS if another front end can do what they desire. He is a Mala user, and probably doesn't know about some of the more advanced features of another front end. What I did was attempt to help, unlike your first post.
This is my last post directed at Headcase (did I spell that wrong?)
Sorry, grue - had to vent. I'll see what I can come up with for your setup...

Look Havok I was just saying it annoys me sometimes. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood and didn't see the funny side of it today. Either way, lets have a beer and forget about it okay? All I am saying is that it annoyed me, I have no problem with you as a person, so lets not get personal. And you spell my nick with a "k", but I don't really care how you spell it!
Anyway, back to the beer...

I just checked if we could already do that you want with AtomicFE.
And not, just because i forgot to implement a function to switch the game list in the scripting engine. :(
So what i propose. Try front-ends on the "market" , and if you decide that AtomicFE would be the best for you if he had the feature your request. Let me know, i will implement it for you in priority.
