I am thinking of getting a PC flight stick to put in my cab for games like start wars, and I think Red Barron. Is there anything special I need to look for in a stick such as analog or digital? Is the only way to connect them to use game port on the PC or can they be hacked in some other way? My can runs in dos, with a SB Live card, so I am assuming that I would need some dos drivers for the game port, then I would configure only the games that I want to use the flight stick?

In DOS, the game port is your only option. You do not need drivers for the stick. DOS gameport sticks are analog.

1) Starwars on a flight stick isn't starwars... Their controls are just down right different... Look on ebay for the real ones... they come up all the time for about 100bucks for a nice one... and 50 for one that needs work
2) PC flight sticks you will have to go gameport... so all the latestest are outs.
3) Bit problems here.. you can get true arcade analog ones pretty cheap (I got one in perfect shape for 10 bucks and 7 shipping on ebay). BUT....they run on 5k pots. gameport PC sticks use 100k pots.... So you have to swap them out (25bucks each for good ones from happs) or do the 1Up starwars hack on them... but that takes windows and a USB port.
good luck

Or just buy a PC stick and rip the pots out of them... :)

if you can find a logitech wingman (or wingman extreme with the built in spinner), it runs 5k pots... it was easy as pie to hack into my space harrier upright's flight stick:
rip apart wingman extreme.
put it's circut boards into space harrier control panel.
connect wires from wingman's circut board's wiring harness to space harrier pots.
plug it into gameport.
calibrate in control panel.
done...too easy:-)

can you shoot me a PM (or check yours)
i'm trying to do the exact thing... i want to MAME my space harrier cabinet (without ruining it) until I can find a working boardset for the machine.
i just ordered a wingman from ebay. it looks like an older one because the newer ones say 'digital' and i'm assuming i don't want that.
i'd be interested in some detailed photos and/or what wires you connected to where on the original SH harness, etc.
thanks!
keith.

I've got a Wingman Warrior sitting on the floor under my desk right now! Didn't know it used 5k pots though, Cool! Have any luck getting the spinner to work under XP?
Also, I'd love some pics of that Space Harrier Joystick, above panel and below. I want to know if it's the same (mechanically, I know the handle is different) as an Afterburner stick.
Thanks!

Kremmit,
You are just way too spooky for me.
It was bad enough seeing that our "currently owned" lists, and "wish" lists, were so similar.
If "your" Wingman Warrior is sitting on top of a hard drive box behind the chair you sit in to post messages when you get home........GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!!!!!!

Nope, mine is on the carpet under the knee-hole, where I can kick it every once in a while. Ever get your spinner to work?
