Title: How to safely ship a monitor?

Hi folks.

If you were going to ship a standard 19 inch arcade monitor, how would you do it?
How would you pack it, and who would you ship with?

They ship them in styrofoam about 3" thick in a really sturdy box with 1/4" walls. 

Like a printer or computer is packed when you open it.

Wooden pallet made to fit the size of your package with a few inches extra oversized.

The only reason i can see cardboard working on something like this would be the monitor is too heavy to throw around in the mail room. WOOD!

I may have to go wood soon on my shipped glass.

BTW, make sure you get insurance on it.

Easiest way is to buy a new monitor and put the old one in the box the new one came in.

Go to Best Buy or Circuit City, etc. and get a television set box.

For shipping, UPS damages more monitors than even the post office could. Use DHL to ship it on. The prices are much lower than other shippers and the monitor will actually arrive in good shape.

The glass side of the tube is probably the strongest part of the monitor.  Its very thick and isn't likely to break.  I remember being a stupid kid trying to bust the tube of a TV with some bricks in the field...we really chucked those bricks at that tube and sure we could chip glass off...and maybe may some superficial cracks...but we could NOT break that tube!

Older tubes are also convex, like the front side of your windshield, yo.
