This is a very very extreme newb question. Have tried searching on here, but am still a little confused as to what router bit i should use to rout out the recesses for a joystick and speakers.. I know i need a flush trim (or pattern) bit to make sure the cabinet edges are all exact...
But can someone please give me a plain and simple answer to the above. Thanks..
PS Sorry for what must be a really stupid and basic question.. But it's only easy if you know the answer lol

If you're working with a template (for joystick or trackball mounting), you can use the same flush trim pattern bit. If it's a bit with the bearing on the bottom, you can drill a hole to start routing.
And if you buy a bit with the bearing mounted on the top, you can even use it for through holes like a speaker hole, assuming the cutting length is deeper than your material, of course.
Or, you can buy a straight bit, which essentially looks like the pattern bit sans bearing, *or* a spiral cutting bit.

Here is a flush trim bit, which you should be able to use for both of you applications and the next is a spiral cut bit. The options for spiral bit is up, down, with or without bearing. The up means shavings will be dispensed upward and down for a downward spiral.
