It's been a while since I've participated in the artwork forum, since my project thread has taken priority after real life. Anyhow... as I'm getting nearer to launching my project's website I've been toying with the idea of adding a section with free artwork for people to download. The idea would be to provide a bunch of classic cab oriented designs that people could customize with their cab's name. Or even just leave as is with logos designed around themes with a universal(ish) appeal.... like Mame, Arcade, etc..
This is an example of what this type of art would look like. Colors could be customized as could fonts etc. All designs would be vector so anyone with Illustrator or the ability to edit an EPS could modify them. For those without the software (or inclination) I could make simple modifications for a few bucks (maybe $5 or $10 to keep requests to a minimum). Ideally I'd provide a downloadable set of a marquee, bezel, FE background, CP and mebbe sideart so an entire cab could be themed with a very produced look. Since these vector designs are fairly easy to bang out, I could probably add a new one each month to the collection. Fun? Lame? Helpful? Pointless? Let me know. What would people like to have offered? Mebbe cocktail overlays as well?

That would be sweet. Those of us who have no talent, in this area, would appreciate your efforts. Oh and we are all looking forward to your website as well. Thanks.

Definitely a very good idea. As long as people realize that's it's in your spare time.

I think it's an excellent idea, but I'm a bit confused about how it'd work.
So they would basically be stylish, well-composed background images that someone could download and put their cabinet's name/logo in front of. And you'd also offer some basic, generic-themed ones as well.
Is this right?

Yeah, essentially they'd be layered Illustrator files, so people familiar with Illustrator could download them and manipulate any elements they'd like... changing colors, text, typefaces etc. They could easily remove the text to use only the background or the trim etc. Or... for those without access to the software I could make the changes for them.
In the case of the design above, for example, the type and the outlines are all separate layers, so you could select those and hit delete to add your own type. Or if you liked the look of it but wanted a different name, you could load the necessary font (I'd include with the file) type it in and create new offset outlines to match the design. If that isn't an option due to software access or know how, I could make the changes for a paypal of a few bucks and there you go.
As far as control panels go, modifying outlines around controls could become a bit difficult for some, so I'd probably offer a number of different control configurations. From there it'd be pretty easy for people to move controls around in groups to suit their layouts. I'd also offer a matching black and white drilling template for the CP art to help align holes.
