I'm needing to repair at LEAST one of these monitors. One of them has a pretty decent picture. One of them is untested. And the other looks like this:

I'm hoping a simple cap kit will take care of it. But to do that, I need the schematics and such (I think..?) and to get THOSE, I need to know what it is :) Any thoughts? More identifying pics:

I have access to the Randy Fromm videos and I _believe_ one of his books of schematics. That should be enough to do this, right? I've never done it, before, but want to take a shot at it.

your screen volts on the flyback transformer is too high and you may need to adjust your colours and contrast to compensate-nothing more

What about the white lines running through it?

the white lines are called flyback lines you get them when your screen volts is too high hence turn down the screen volts,just get a mirror and adjust the screen volts pot whilst looking in the mirror(not at yourself but at the screen)

You have a Sharp model XM-1801N.
It'll need a capkit for sure. This monitor may have a flyback that's arcing. The flybacks for this model are no longer available anywhere and were discontinued well over 15 years ago. It's very important to inspect the flyback very closely for pinholes in the case and hairline cracks (where arcing can occur). They like to arc out the top to the top cover of the flyback cage. It gets very hot in that cage and it'll kill that flyback. On this monitor model only, I remove and discard the top metal cover of the flyback cage to allow the flyback to run cooler.

Received my cap kit from Mike's Arcade. All went smoothly there, but same problem.
Messed with the contrast and all, no joy. Inspected the flyback and all appears to be ok. I didn't notice anything resembling a crack or pinhole..
I've now watched the _first_ video from the Randy Fromm monitor repair class.. (Need to get to the next 2 videos, soon)... According to what he's shown so far, it appears the blanking circuit may be having issues? The lines match what he shows when he disconnects the blanking circuit. You can (fairly obviously, in person) see the retrace lines going at angles up the screen.
Hopefully, in the next 2 videos, he'll have some ways to fix that.. :)

Did you actually try adjusting the SCREEN pot on the flyback?
(as others have mentioned already)
And one thing to keep in mind when adjusting the contrast, brightness, colors, etc is ..... did they do anything at all?
If not then check to see that the pot itself is working.
I've seen many issues similar to this that were caused by a faulty pot.

Hrm.. You know how you get very single-minded about a topic and tend to brush over things that dont' fit..? I think that's what I did..
I know exactly where the screen pot is, and I now realize I don't think I adjusted that one. I'll try that (hopefully tonight/tomorrow?) and also the others again and this time keep better track of what they do.
Trying not to be dense, but the monitor stuff is all new to me :)

No problem.... I've had some real stumper problems that turned out to be real simple reasons. Mostly because I was "overlooking the obvious".
I didn't really catch on from what I read that you had actually tried the screen pot on the flyback, so I figured I'd ask directly.
And sometimes it's a mere process of elimination, one thing at a time.
But if we don't know for sure what has been done or checked it's hard to come back with more assistance.
Let us know how it goes.
