Title: Act Labs USB PC Calibration Issues
Post by: jeffo on November 13, 2006, 09:02:27 pm
hey guys,

need a little help.

I just got my 2 Act Labs USB PC lightguns, just setting up 1 for now, since ive read how complicated 2 can get.

Im running on an arcade monitor through ArcadeVga.

Anyway, when i got to configure within mame, it only detects Lightgun X axis when attempting to calibrate.

Any ideas as to what this can be?

I tried in both mame .109 and mame32

thanks

It appears that the lightgun code is broken in the current MAME.  I'm not sure when this broke exactly, but I get the same problem as you now using v0.110 (it used to work fine a few versions ago when calibrating like this: http://www.act-labs.com/products/Act%20Labs%20Light%20Guns%20on%20XP.htm)

Try version 0.106  or v0.105 and see if that helps.  I'm also seeing problems shooting on the right half of the screen.  It's like the coordinates are being interpreted as relative instead of absolute.

heh,
yeah i read through that page abour 5x last night, almost went mental trying to calibrate it, just kept coming up lightgun axis X no matter what i did.

I read somewhere else too that it might be that the V sync and the H sync wires from the vga breakout cable are spliced together, im gonna take a look into that.

On the topic of Act Labs lightguns, they appear to have a new model:

http://www.act-labs.com/products/gun1.htm (http://www.act-labs.com/products/gun1.htm)

"NEW PC & TV USB ARCADE LIGHT GUNS"  It has a USB cable but requires a "VGA-Box"  as well for it to work.

Does anyone have any info on these?

Is it possible to make your own VGA-Box, because if so, then the $30 price seems pretty good.
